I hate to write such a negative review of a store that has so many positive things about it. We've been shopping at Big Brother Comics for about 3 years and have found great games there. On December 19, 2023 we spent $114.00 on 2 games and a handful of dice. When we got home we noticed that one of the games ($59.99) was damaged. This was right before Christmas and so we set it aside without opening it before traveling for the holidays. Once we were back in town we went to Big Brother Comics to exchange the game on January 4, 2024, but they were unwilling to take responsibility for selling a damaged game to us. The person working immediately jumped to the fact that all sales are final. And pointed out that the receipt says "No refunds. No Exchanges." This is frustrating because it is the first time anybody working there ever brought up the policy and given that they are so inflexible on it (even when they are in the wrong) I HIGHLY recommend that every sales rep make sure they remind customers about this policy BEFORE they finalize a sale. This is the least you can do to make sure customers aren't taken advantage of. On one hand we definitely understand that policy, especially for a small business. But we never imagined the policy would be upheld since the store sold us a damaged item. Unfortunately, when I spoke with the employee working that day he explained that "they cannot inspect the thousands of games on their shelf for damage everyday." I clarified that I wouldn't expect them to do that -- I would only expect them to check on the games during a sale when they are checking a customer out. He said he expected customers to check the things they buy to make sure they aren't damaged. I was shocked: did he really mean to say that it is up to customers to make sure they aren't being sold a damaged or faulty item? I think many customers assume that they are being sold high quality items that are worth the price they are paying -- but this is not an assumption you can make at Big Brother Comics. He was absolutely uncompromising in his stance that there was "nothing he could do". He explained that if he were to order a replacement for the game, they would have to pay full price for it. This meant that the store would lose money, which he wasn't okay with. Apparently he was perfectly fine with us losing money on a damaged game though. What is so sad is that the $60 it would have cost them to make the situation right is so much less than they would have earned from us over the following months and years. Customers have value that grows over their lifetime because they learn to trust and support and invest in your business. But we don't want to support a business that has an "us versus them" mentality when they think about customers, and thinks that customers should have to pay the price for their mistakes. On top of this, the person working today seemed to imply that we had waited too long to bring the game back (17 days) and that we were lying about how the game was damaged -- in some ways this is what hurt the most. We've loved Big Brother Comics and have been loyal customers, but we were being treated like we didn't matter at all. This is why we won't...

I recently called the shop looking for a board game that's pretty much sold out all over NorCal. Like every other store I had called that day they checked their inventory and stated they didn't have a copy in stock. BUT this store went above and beyond by asking me for my email address so they could get get in contact with me after checking with all their distributors to see if they could find a copy. Within the hour they emailed me that they hadn't had any luck finding a copy as the game vendor hadn't printed many copies for their first print.
NOW here's where they REALLY went above and beyond: The following week, after first contacting them, they emailed me saying a distributor had found a copy and that it was up front at the desk for me to pick up if I still wanted it! They could have easily put this copy out to for sale and sold it within a day (due to the high demand for this game), but instead they set it aside for me to pick up!
This is the type of service you are used to getting for being a loyal customer, but this store knows how to treat every customer like they are one! This will definitely be my go-to place for picking up board games! Please support this local brick and mortar store (FLGS).
Side notes: Street parking was easy to find on a busy evening. Store looks exceptionally organized and the employees are super helpful in answering any questions...
Read moreLegit comic book store. Had everything my grandson and I were looking for. Found the whole Walking Dead series, and they were on clearance too. They seem to have a large clearance section in the back which I didn't even realize was clearance at first.
I would say this is a larger comic book store and they seem to have more full/complete collections. There was a very wide variety of comics too, which was super nice. They do have rooms for playing the card games like Magic in the back area as well. From what I remember, they primarily sell comics, mangas, animes, various card games, board games, puzzles, and DnD/Warhammer equipment/supplies. I'm sure they sell other items, that's just what I remember.
The store was busy, which is always a great sign for a comic book store. It's also big enough so you're not tripping over other people or feel like you're boxed in. Prices were cheaper than I was expecting, compared to other stores where I live. I got a few larger Marvel comics for myself, the book style type ones. I was extremely happy with the prices.
This was our first visit to this store ever and we'll be going back when we're in the Sacramento...
