I was making my way to an Italian I liked the look of online, when the menu of this place caught my eye, and hunger got the better of me. I was dining alone and was offered a space at the back but went for a sunny spot at the front, and I immediately felt little like the server wasn't very pleased, because he said these were for dining customers only, but I had said I was eating so... I asked for a zero beer, and a tap water too, but I was given bottled, which I later discovered was DKK45!
The food came out quickly and was nicely presented, if a little plain. I ordered the salmon, but judging by some of the other photos on reviews I looked at here later, I was done out of some asparagus or similar green seasonal veg! However, it tasted fresh and the salmon was nicely cooked; it was silky and melted in the mouth, and the skin crisp. The sauce was very basic, like Heinz tomato soup! No herbs, just the dill on top of the salmon. Nonetheless, all mixed with the pasta and veg, it was a good combination.
I was still a bit hungry after, so I opted for dessert. I couldn't decide between the strawberries, ice cream, and choc sauce, or the Belgian waffle, ice cream, and choc sauce, so I asked for the latter and if they would put a couple of strawberries on the side, if I paid a bit extra, but the server said he could only charge me the full price for two desserts, which at DKK75 for each seemed excessive for a couple of strawberries, so I refused.
I also ordered a hot choc, which came with cream. Oddly, for a hot drink, it had a straw rather than a spoon for the cream.
The other customers made the atmosphere pleasant and friendly. Lots of chatter and laughing. The sun was shining on me the whole time, which was perfect. A man sat by the water and played his accordion. But I couldn't help thinking the server didn't really appreciate me sitting at the front as a lone diner. There was no charm or playfulness, as if they were just going through the motions, and one server seemed to actively place the menu board in front of me, so people couldn't see me sitting by myself.
When the bill came, there was a credit card fee, which was unexpected, but apparently usual here for foreign credit cards (it was card only, no cash). But the price went up again on the card machine (another card charge?) before I'd even opted to pay a tip, so in total, I paid about DKK530 (about £62), which seemed excessive for what it was. The diners next to me seemed pretty shocked at their bill too and got out their calculators, and that was before the card machine was produced!
I must admit, I was in a tourist trap here, so I shouldn't necessarily expect much better for sitting in a prime sunny spot, but a few smiles and pleasantries would have gone a long way, and perhaps they might reconsider on offering a couple of strawberries for less than 75DKK...
Read moreI went there with my mom for lunch. As a starter I had a lobster soup. Upon ordering it, I was under the impression there would be small chunks of (lobster tail) meat in it as well but this was not the case. I also shared a (4) fish lunch plate with my mom. No complains here, the open sandwiches were good. Our main however was not. I had mousels and my mom had the fried fish plaice, on the menu the "classic shooting star". The mousels were overcooked, but I did manage to eat most of them, so they were edible. My mom's fish however was not. It was way too fried and oily. It didn't taste like anything other than fry oil. Additionally, the dishes were served cold (lukewarm at best).
As far as the service, our waiter wasn't necessarily that bad or unpolite just not attending at all. Firstly, when he brought us our starters he told us that there was a mistake and the chef already made the main dishes. He asked whether he could bring these as well, to which we replied no. We didn't have any place on the small table and we needed time for the starters as well. After finishing our starters, he was nowhere to be found. Other waiters didn't seem to see or care for us. However, when he did arrive and brought us our mains, they were cold.
One more thing that bothered me as well as my mom (although this concerns the owners/management) is that when we asked about an ashtray, the waiter said they don't have any because they get stolen and we should throw the cigarettes on the floor when we finish and they will clean afterwards. We didn't feel comfortable about the staff picking our cigarettes up one by one, which resulted in us going up and walking to the trash bin everytine we...
Read moreBeing made to wait sitting at a table for 45 minutes, 30 without a menu is beyond poor service. It’s disgraceful. The fact the place was not even full, makes it even worse. The haughty and rather glib response from the English sounding duty manager, left a lot to be desired. Contempt would be a more apt description.
The food when it did arrive was average. The half-lobster had no more meat than a Tiger prawn. It was probably purchased as part of an Aldi Christmas special and left in the freezer for 8 months!
The fillet steak wrapped in bacon, was fair, but far from succulent and not up to scratch. The accompanying Bernaise sauce, had obviously sat in the pot since the last customer used it. I thought about dessert…. But then remembered there was an ice cream store nearby…. Rather go there and be served in a timely fashion than wait and wait and wait for Skipperkroen to remember the paying customer pays the bills. 🤷🏻♂️
And speaking of paying…… they don’t seem to mind you waiting interminably for the bill either.
I won’t go into the absence of anti-Covid sanitation for table service, it is non existent, which means I can add a dreaded wait for a negative PCR test to the list of reasons I would not recommend a visit to this...
