A great place to stay if you're travelling light. The 1-guest room is small and the overall room amenities are pretty minimal, but perfectly usable and good for the price. The air conditioning in the room is also a great plus.
During my stay the rooms next to mine were quiet, but the walls are definitely pretty thin, so your experience may vary depending on the guests staying next to you.
All in all, you can't beat the price to location ratio. 2 minute walking distance from the station located on the line connecting both major airports. Also a quick walk or train ride from Ueno station hub, so you can get anywhere from here with ease. The location near the Asakusa area is also great for short-range excursions.
The staff was always super friendly and check-in process was in English. The front door closes in the evening, but you have a code to enter without any issue.
Update: My partner and I stayed here during our last trip to Tokyo, and even given a 2-person room, the overall room space was similar to the single-person room (with a larger bed). We made it work, but the space was getting sparse with the luggage taking up major room next to the table and the small table covered with chargers. If we had two pieces of luggage, it would have been tougher. However, at the end of the day, it did not matter much. We found that the price and location of the hotel heavily outweighed the space...
Read moreSo booked it at the last minute as I decided to extend my stay in Japan by a couple more days and I couldn’t extend my stay at my previous hotel. So the location is in a great location, a few minutes walk to either the Tokyo Skytree, Asakusa Nakamise, Tokyo River Cruise terminal, Asahi Beer Hall, and Sumida Park. Also there is a 7-11 half a block down and you have quick access to the Asakusa and Ginza lines. So the room I stayed in was spacious compared to other rooms that I stayed in while in Tokyo. Did have a bathroom and a separate sink, a closet to hang jackets in, a small tv, desk, office chair, and mini-fridge. You can store your luggage after 9:00 am on the day of check-in and they will put it in after 3:00. You access your room by code instead of the typical card key and if you come back to your room after 10:00pm they do give you a access code to enter the building as they close after 10:00. They do have vending machines on the first and second floor and you can pickup amenities on the second floor and just ask for towels and they do clean the rooms daily unless you let them know you don’t need it. They do have laundry I just did not use it. It was pretty quiet. You do also get access to WiFi during your stay. As far as checking out goes you don’t need to checkout with...
Read moreLocation: in quiet Sumida area, 5 min walk to either metro Asakusa or Honjo-azumabashi. Best to come in via Honjo-azumabashi exit A3 (stairs only) , as there is much less crowd. 7-11 around the corner, and small Aeon supermarket at exit of Honjo-azumabashi. |Reception is only from 10 am to 10 pm, and check-out is before 10 am (can keep luggage until 9 pm, or can ship luggage for a fee) . If you are arriving outside reception time, please notice the hotel staff beforehand. |Rooms: old, small but very clean. Personal aircon, and had windows that can be opened. Beds were softer for Jap standard, so I had good sleep. Provided fast Wi-Fi, a mini fridge inside room, and a microwave on second floor. |My only gripe would be the very narrow tub-shower. So yes, try one of the many sentos in Japan. Mikokuyu is 15 min walk from OYO, open 15:30-02:00 (except Monday) , and...
