We stayed at the Lisbon Art Stay Aparthotel in the summer of 2024. While the location is undeniably ideal, situated in the heart of Lisbon's tourist district, our experience was overshadowed by an unfortunate discovery: we brought home some unwelcome souvenirs in the form of roaches and bed bugs.
Out of the three couples we were traveling with, two experienced similar issues. Our luggage brought roaches back to our home, while our friends returned with mysterious bites. After consulting with their doctors, the bites were confirmed to be caused by bed bugs.
Upon returning home and discovering these issues about 10 days later, all couples ended up spending several hundred dollars each to address the problem. We had to spray, treat, bait, and thoroughly clean every surface in our homes, including washing all bedding and soft furnishings. Needless to say, this was far from an ideal way to spend our time after what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation.
Although we stayed in three different hotels during our time in Portugal, we are confident that this particular aparthotel was the source of the problem. On our first night, we turned down the bed and were horrified to find a fresh blood smear on the sheets...not something anyone wants to see at 12:30 a.m. We immediately called the front desk, and to their credit, they responded quickly, changing the sheets even at that late hour. However, the new set of sheets also had another blood smear. Exhausted, we decided to layer a flat sheet over the fitted sheet and try to sleep.
At the time, we assumed the smears might have been caused by a housekeeper with a small injury. However, after doing some research following our return back home, we learned that fresh blood smears are a common sign of bed bugs. The next morning, we informed housekeeping, and the sheets were changed for a third time within the first 24 hours of our stay.
The three-bedroom apartment-style unit itself was disappointing. While advertised as eclectic, it felt more like a collection of mismatched yard-sale furniture hastily spraypainted to appear cohesive. The overall effect was less "artistic" and more reminiscent of an elementary school art project.
In summary, while the location of the Lisbon Art Stay Aparthotel is fantastic, our stay was marred by these distressing issues. Unfortunately, this experience overshadowed the charm of its...
Read moreThe location of the hotel was central and was only a three minute walk to the metro. There are lots of food options around, including some great nata cafes. However the hotel branded itself as an art hotel which sadly didn’t work well as the corridors and rooms were dark and the whole effect was one of a seedy den. To top it all, on the last night of the stay, I encountered a broken flush button (from an over enthusiastic cleaner, I am sure as I was out for the whole day), which could not be resolved until the following day. A lovely lady from the reception provided an interim solution, which was great as no one goes to a four star hotel expecting toilet conditions akin to a public toilet. The following morning, I had to wake up early for a work call. There was no electricity in the room. To cut the long story short, it was a circuit trip which was not resolved until an hr later. I sat in the dark. The reception should have known what to do but he didn’t. Neither did he provide a torch or candle as I had requested. Now re reading the reviews (look at those ratings under 3 stars and below and the replies by the hotel re unforseen cancellations), it appears tht circuit tripping is common in this hotel. So beware. I strongly suggest tht u are prepared for possible scenarios such as this. I spoke to the manager and he said tht it was unforseen circumstances. But considering tht they know tht tripping occurs frequently, it cannot be unforseen. He compensated me a fraction of the costs of a night’s accommodation. I didn’t care about the money but they should be more proactive in offering compensation (rather than to wait for the client to ask) and to provide a duty of care. This is the worst hotel tht I have stayed in on this trip because it is clearly unsafe. This hotel needs significant...
Read moreToday 1/22, my sister and I stayed in a two-bedroom apartment with 2 people, 3 bathrooms, 1 guest suite, and 1 kitchen. We stayed in the two-bedroom suite for 3 nights today,. I went out at 7 pm and my sister wanted to sleep. At 9 o'clock my sister asked me to come back quickly and the bed collapsed. When I came back, I went to the counter and told the lady about this. She was helping me find out which room the room key was. But I waited a while and found that she had been dealing with the cleaning of 3 guests. When I asked in the past, she asked me what was happening? Suddenly I remembered that she forgot. She stated that it would take days to repair. I asked the room to see it. She said she would come within 5 minutes, so I went back to the room first. but the bed was b
Then The hotel male staff asked me to repair it, and rightly taught us loudly that we could n’t help it. We recorded the footage, and his attitude was so bad that when he quarreled with me again, he also fell through the door. He kept arguing about me.
The male service staff is very fierce and has been asking us for a theory. It is really strange service than staring at their feet.
I said I wanted to show it to the manager. He immediately ran downstairs. Another girl also said that she couldn't take the lead and waited for the manager to go to work tomorrow. I'll talk about it. We came to holiday accommodation, spent a lot of time, couldn't go out and couldn't sleep, and also encountered this attitude. It's really bad.Tomorrow is our Lunar New Year. We originally had plans and may have to be disrupted. The hotel attitude is that the bed was taken for granted, repaired, what else? It ’s just that there ’s no way to fill up. It ’s because you do n’t help with repairs. Only Langfang has so much time....
