TLDR: great location, clean, nice beds. Yes, the cubbies are hot. Not super affordable considering it’s a hostel but it’s Jackson and everything is expensive.
Great location! Right across from the visitor center in Jackson and only a short walk to all the shops/restaurants. Clean. I’m hyper-cautious of bed bugs so I always thoroughly inspect mattresses and bedding anywhere I stay, & the bedding/mattress were very clean. We were there 2 nights and we saw a team of cleaners come in. Guests were all ages and from all over! All were friendly and respectful. Tip#1: entrance is hard to find. It’s downstairs on the side facing the visitor center which is across the street. The building had a broken sign on the same side and was painted a dark color (not sure if it was navy or black). Before you lug all your stuff down the stairs, check in at the attached Anvil hotel. (May vary seasonally, we went off-season in mid-September.) Tip #2: they do NOT offer parking! There’s a garage about a 10 min walk away, or you can try to find street parking anywhere outside of downtown. During the day, you can leave your car in the visitor center parking but not overnight. Most street parking outside of downtown is free limited to 2 hours until 6 and then you can park there overnight. We were able to park on Mercill, which is the next street down to the North of the hostel. Tip # 3: the reservation includes a locker with a combination lock you set yourself. The locker is a good size, about half standing height, but fairly wide and deep. I was able to fit my 24” hard-sided suitcase, good size backpack, coat and purse in the locker. They have a table near the locker hall where you can set your suitcase to sort through it. However, the locker hall has a lot of traffic and it was kind of a pain having to get in and out of the locker all the time. I recommend planning ahead and packing what you need each day in separate bags or packing cubes so you can just grab and go. Also, pack a separate bag for anything you want to sleep with in your bed cubby (air pods or ear plugs, lotion, water bottle, medicine, etc.). Exact suitcase dimensions: 17.7” W x 10.6” D x 25.98” H (standing on wheels) Tip #3: it is super easy to accidentally reset your combination lock on the lockers! I did it and I saw it happen to others. If you do, just head up to the desk in the Anvil hotel and the staff will come help you reset it. BUT, to avoid this, remember not to scramble the combination when the handle is in the “up” position (turned to the left). As long as your combination is set when you turn the handle down (to the right), it should remain as you set it. Then, once the handle is turned to the right, you can then scramble the numbers so it doesn’t show your code. Tip #4: they provide several private, locking shower rooms which include a toilet, sink, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Not a lot of floor space, no counter space, and only one hook for hanging things, so you don’t want to take too much in there. They also have a shared sink/counter space area outside of the hall with the shower rooms. Tip #5: they provide towels! The towels are in the drawer under your bed cubby. Tip #6: with the curtains closed, the cubbies aren’t too noisy, but there is some noise transfer. If you’re a light sleeper, I recommend bringing ear plugs or air pods. Tip #7: as other reviews have mentioned, the cubbies get hot, even in mid-September when the outside temperature was lower. They provide a fan in the cubby but you can’t really aim it down at yourself. I think it is because the cubbies are pretty well insulated so they retain heat. (Insulation =better sound proofing, so it is a win some/lose some situation). It seemed to get hotter the longer I was in it. If you sleep hot, plan accordingly. I brought a cooling blanket, which helped. They do have outlets in the cubby if you want to bring an additional fan. And/or sleep in your...
Read moreMy friend and I were traveling through Wyoming to visit some parks and were looking for some cheaper accommodations. Jackson Hole is a pretty expensive place to visit and this hostel was one that had (less) bad reviews and not so crazy prices. ($371 for two nights, Thurs and Friday. Yes, still quite pricey) We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here!
The concierge called us the day of to make sure we were still coming, and was fine to us checking in around midnight. It is located in the same building as the anvil hotel, and the check in area is through an entrance in the small parking lot onsite. ....don't try to park there though, there is only street parking across the street. It can be limited.
Check in process was fairly easy. There was someone at the desk to help us get sorted. They told us the queen bed we reserved was not clean when we got there, so they gave us a new bed right away. Thankfully it was a Thursday night and there were less people so it was easy to arrange. The entire place is downstairs under the anvil hotel.
We were allowed one locker (big enough for one carry on luggage), and one drawer under bed (two big backpacks). They also provide you with a shower towel and another small/face towel. You cannot bring food or drink inside the bed area. My friend and I loved the numerous individual shower rooms, equipped with your own toilet, sink, shower, lavender scented shampoo conditioner body wash! They also had multiple rooms with just toilets as well. The sinks are at the end of the hall and had labeled sections for dirty towels.
The other reviews stated there was no AC, which is true. I did not find it a problem, even though we came here July 7-9 2022. There is no ventilation whatsoever but It was relatively cool when I stayed. There was a small fan that kept us cool in our lower bunk. We kept it on the entire night. The showers also had no ventilation so after showers, it would stay humid unless you kept the door open to dry.
Living spaces was comfortable. There was a Couch area, community bench and table, and a few tables and chairs. Unfortunately if you wanted hot water (for food), you had to go upstairs to ask the front desk for hot water. They would only give you a cup though bc the front desk doubled as a coffee shop. No refrigerator as well. Lock on our locker kept getting jammed or not working so we had to go upstairs to ask to get it fixed. There was basically no one working downstairs, so if you wanted anything, you needed to go upstairs to front desk to ask about it. They were nice and polite but it was a hassle.
I liked that this place was in the middle of Jackson hole/downtown so it was walking distance to coffee shops, shopping area, small park, restaurants. There was also a farmers market down the street the Saturday we were leaving!
Overall, pretty cool hostel that might have upped my expectations of hostels forever! But I would assume it would be nice since we paid a pretty penny... Definitely would stay here again if I were visiting. Weeknights are a lot quieter, Friday and Saturdays are a bit busier with more...
Read moreThe location was great to be close to town square for a night. Our bed was missing a fan but overall the cubbies were nice, clean and we felt safe. Noise wasn’t an issue. There were plenty of individual bathrooms with showers, sinks, toilets in addition to some stand alone toilets and a sink area.
I would stay again but I absolutely would not use the lockers. They are very easy to get yourself locked out of/have your combination reset on you, as we saw several others have it happen to them. When we checked I , we were shown how to set our code but were not really shown how easily we could accidentally reset it. We had no problem using the lockers several times until after we showered around 10pm and did find our combo no longer worked. I went up the Anivl desk- no one was there and at least 3 others waiting for assistance to check in, etc. Went back about 10:15pm and there was an 80 year old security man that really was only equipped with giving out room keys on pre-printed pages.
My main complaint is the lack of customer service after 10pm. So unfortunately when we had this issue of not being able to get in our lockers, the very nice 80 yr old security person at the desk of the Anvil did not have the correct key. He said it might work sometimes but warned me it took them 15 minutes the night before when he had to help out another lady. We tried and could not get our items out of the locker. We were planning to leave by 6:15am for our hikes, but were told there wouldn’t be anyone who could help us until 7am. That person showed up 20 minutes late. There was at least one other person that was locked out of their locker as well. The main issue was the night person not having the appropriate resources to help with the lockers. There was another lady waiting after 10pm that had a confirmation for the main hotel and he couldn’t help her either when he wasn’t left her paperwork. So I wouldn’t have much confidence in using either property - The Cache House or The Anvil- if you have to arrive after 10pm or need to check out before 7- well more like 7:30am.
This is my 5th time staying in town a night before staying in cabins closer to the park. The Cache house is nice for the price but after this experience, I’ll more than likely pay more for a hotel with service next time or leave all my belongings locked in my...
