Summer season August. Stayed in Jackson Hole for 3 nights and Yellowstone for 2. From the moment we arrived we heard from everyone that Local was the place to eat when in Jackson. We tried to get reservations for the first two nights and nothing was available except a 5pm that didn’t work for us due to other commitment. Credit card deposit required and a $100 no show fee. No problem - I get it. Most popular place down town and great location. We had a family of 5 and all we could get were bar seats for 2 off the bar. (They did say we could accommodate 4 or squeeze 5 in but thought better and sent the teens for pizza). Started off with cocktails, dirty Martini for wife (tasted sweet too much vermouth) and I had a recommended tequila specialty cocktail. Nothing special $13-$17. Had the beef tartar (very good) two baby’s arugula salads (good) and for entree I had the market fish (Halibut with broccolini served over rice.) and specialty 20oz bone in rib-eye “butchers cut” for $120. This is where we were most disappointed. Halibut was maybe 6 oz and totally dry. Rice cake below was even drier. Broccolini fine. My wife ordered the steak rare (sorry but always a mistake for a bone in ribeye) which she sent back not once but twice (a risk in itself) and despite there was no cooking out the toughness of the quality of the steak. The manager came out and apologized and discounted the steak 50% which was very nice and appreciated. This wasn’t about the money and being from NYC we are very accustomed to $100 a head bills unfortunately. We even topped off the dinner with $32 a glass each of Jordon 2018. We did feel that everything came too fast and was a turn the table atmosphere. The entire point of the review is that I would still recommend Local when in town and in the area. However if you are going to charge like it’s NYC or similar you have to hit it on all cylinders. This didn’t cut it or meet the expectations of the associated or correspond charge. All I can say is it could and should have been much better. Maybe it was because we weren’t “lucky enough” to strike a prime time dinner reservation? Could be, not sure. I’m not one to write reviews in general but like the Locals I want Local to succeed. Take note and try a bit better here. We plan on coming back winter for skiing and would love to book in advance and see you all again. Beautiful country and experience worthy of a wonderful eating experience. Best and hope to see...
Read moreWe had a perfect dinner at The Local. On our western vacation, I wanted a place to try game meat and after a lot of research picked this restaurant. So glad we did! Make reservations in advance - it books up fast and you definitely want to get a table here! Give yourself time to savor the meal too - this is not a place to visit in a rush.
Our server was wonderful, helpful and well informed. It's an upscale restaurant but it did not feel pretentious. Nothing worse than getting talked down to by a waiter but I never got that impression here.
I had considered getting the wild game sampler platter but market price when we went in June 2025 was $350 (in case you were curious!) and that was a bit much for us.
Instead, we tried a few of the entrees that included the game. We had buffalo tartare as an appetizer and ordered the buffalo Wellington, buffalo bolognese and elk T-bone steak with a side game sausage and shared the plates among four people. For sides, we did the mashed potatoes, truffle mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts and elote salad.
Everything was delicious. The buffalo tartare is so creamy and well seasoned and I could have licked the plate. Buffalo Bolognese is delicious. Loved the noodles as well as the sauce. The game sausage was fine but I probably wouldn't order it again - it was a little dry. The buffalo Wellington is a fascinating western take on an old classic. It was my husband's favorite part of the meal.
But my favorite was the elk T-bone. We got it cooked medium with the chimichurri sauce on the side, and that stuff was the bomb. The meat was tender and juicy, and the tang of the chimichurri just brought out all the amazing umami flavors in the meat. This was what I saved for my "last bite."
My least favorite thing we ate was the elote salad. It didn't have a lot of spice which I was expecting because normally elote is pretty spicy. It was also cold, I suppose I should've expected that, with it being called a salad, but I didn't consider it. It was still good, just not my favorite thing when there were so many other amazing things we ate that night.
Thank you Local for a great dining experience. It was the perfect culinary start to our...

First and foremost, let me give a special shoutout to the witty, humorous, and entertaining bartender who made our visit even more enjoyable. Their charm and banter added an extra layer of fun to the evening, making us feel right at home.
Now, let's talk about the food. The bison burger, made from locally sourced meat, was an absolute treat for the taste buds. It was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The fact that they prioritize using local ingredients only added to the overall satisfaction of the dish.
But let me tell you about the bone marrow. This seemingly simple item on the menu turned out to be the star of the show. It was easily the best thing we tried during our visit. The rich, creamy marrow paired with perfectly toasted bread was a match made in culinary heaven. In fact, it was so delicious that we couldn't resist going back to the restaurant the following day just to have another
