Snake River Roasting Company — Restaurant in Jackson

Really really wanted to like this place. I was really excited to see "Filipino breakfast" on the menu and I also love a good fried chicken sandwich. I have Filipino relatives and have traveled in the Philippines before, so of course this was ordered. When it arrived I almost thought we got the wrong order. I honestly have no clue why someone would think this dish was Filipino in any way, at first I thought the rice was with Ube but realized it was black rice?! Made no sense. Portion was insultingly small. Filipino breakfasts are known to be huge. This was sad and weird. No flavor. Should have a giant scoop of garlic rice, generous meat, tocino or longanisa, or bangus, plus fish sauce. This was black rice so overcooked it turned purple, it had a risotto consistency for some reason, dry pork belly with no flavor, some pickled papaya? And one egg. You've got to be joking.

Chicken sandwich looked promising but disappointed with the first bite. It was much bigger than the bun, pounded flat like a schnitzel, and panko? Breaded. Incredibly dry and zero seasoning in the meat or the breading. The chicken came so far outside the bun that you had to eat about 5 bites before you got to the bun or any garnishes. I hoped it would get better once I ate the thing together as a sandwich but it was just dry and flavorless throughout. I think this may be one of the worst fried chicken sandwiches I've ever had.

Also doughnuts look good but instead of being light and fluffy they are dense and hit the belly like lead. They also taste like they were fried with oil that hadnt been cleaned in ages and was too cold (so it absorbed into the dough). The only saving grace, (if you could call it that, ) is that they are slathered in sugary icing to the point your teeth hurt

So disappointed

Inspiration and creativity have not produced good food. I would much prefer if instead the team were to focus on flavor and proper cooking techniques, perhaps should taste the food they are making before...

Great place for remote working. They encourage you to use the counter stools for remote working, and to restrict to 1 hour; but there were plenty of counter stools available during off season, and no-one hassled me when I stayed there longer than 1 hour 😅 But ... off season. Possibly different during on season. Very likely.

I ate the fries and sunny side up eggs a few times. Delicious. Since I count calories ,most other things were off-limits, since they don't tell you the calories (it's possible to guesstimate the calories in fries by weighing them; and calories in an egg are fairly standard, with a bit of guesstimating for the oil on the egg). Would be nice if calories were stated for other things, but I realize that this would be quite unusual (is why I often eat in fast food places instead of restaurants. Am I the only person who does this? I dont know :) ). Anyway, the fries were yum :)

There is wifi, but it kicks you off after an hour, and you can't use it for the rest of the day, even if you buy more stuff. Also no power sockets. But hey, I have Visible sim card, so infinite network; and I have an apple M2, so my battery lasts a while. But just something to...

I had a high hope for this place but didn’t fulfill my expectation.

We ordered two iced latte and a cookie. A girl who took my order asked ice or hot after I said iced latte and that was little concern. She gave me my cookie and we paid- I saw two latte came out after a person in front of us in line got his coffee so I got those drink. Strangely it tasted little sweet and each drink had different flavor. We realized our girl didn’t place our order to barista and I got the coffee of people who were behind us. Since they didn’t show us how much we paid we didn’t know she didn’t placed our order.

So coffee we got wasn’t what we wanted but it was ok. They offered to make another one but I couldn’t have another coffee. We got mocha and vanilla latte used of regular latte.

Best part of this joint is that they have a sign asking to limit the time of stay. I’m guessing it was for laptop users.👍
