I have mixed feelings about my experience staying here. They covered the basic needs of a hotel, which is the plus side; we all had beds, and there was a decent amount of space in our room. This is also a really convenient place to stay for a competitive skier since it is right on the mountain. The process of leaving my room and getting on the chair lift was very quick. I also like the general area as there are plenty of stores (overpriced of course) around the area of this hotel making it quite convenient. I know most hotels should have this, but they have ice machines for guests which is a plus! I say this because these days I am noticing more places that just donât have these machines around. The fact we had a washing machine in our room was a huge plus because we did not need to worry about shortage of clean gear. One thing that disappointed me is the lack of housekeeping. I am not sure if this is the reason as to why they do not have housekeeping, but the COVID excuses are over. I have been back in the office full time for a few years now and if I could do that, you all can do what regular hotels do which is have the rooms cleaned daily. The price is too high for them not to have this service. Also, it is a ski mountain so I could not creatively think of a more convenient vacation scenario to have housekeeping than this. People are out most of the day on the trails, this is pretty much a housekeepers dream. After the trails, people utilize the hot tub, this place is screaming for logical housekeeping. It was cool that they had people bring us our ski rentals, but if they can do that they can have people clean our rooms. Take my word covid does not discriminate and only spread when people are cleaning vs when they are setting up skis in a room. Again, I do not know their excuse for lacking this, but if it is COVID, absolutely ridiculous. I am leaving that open because I really do not know. Try me with any other excuse, and I bet it does not pass the logical test (my party agreed). Speaking of ridiculous rules, I am sure you know what I am going to say next if you have been here, but I will point out the obvious. Seriously? No wearing Ski boots allowed in the hotel? On a Ski mountain? I have been to countless mountains and have skied for over two decades and no hotel or lodge I have been to has ever had this rule. I am talking about Utah, Colorado, Switzerland, Canada, Vermont, never seen this for obvious reasons. You expect people to walk around in ski boots if it is a ski mountain hotel. This is like having a baseball field and a rule is no wearing cleats in the dugout. I will tell you guys directly; I am not walking down with my boots in hand and putting them on when getting outside. I am also not wearing my shoes and carrying the boots just so I have to worry about locking up my shoes or give them to ski check (not sure if they even do that, but I noticed they do take boots overnight). It is not happening. I would be more likely to ski with no shirt in the freezing cold. I have eyes, I have the ability to speak, and I noticed other guests were not following this rule. I even spoke to a few who laughed at the sign. I think it is time to rethink this policy and I would genuinely be interested to speak with the person who thought of this. If I had a dollar for every person in there I saw wearing ski boots, I would probably have been able to stay an extra day. There is having a dumb rule, and having a rule people just do not follow; this rule covers both categories. Overall as said, they covered a lot of the basics in what I want in a hotel, but their lack of housekeeping and the weird rule put a damper on the experience. I did not use the pool area, but my friends who did said it was very nice and I will take their word. Definitely have stayed in worse places, but I would rate this around average in comparison with...
Read moreThe utter lack of service is alarming. To begin with, there are two front desks, and depending on which service you booked with, the other desk cannot assist you. This becomes problematic when you call down to the front desk for assistance and cannot connect with the correct service. Additionally, there is no one to assist you with luggage. Instead, they direct you to a trolley that you must take to your room, unload, and then return.
When I checked into my room, the odor of Fabuloso, or a similar cleaning agent, was extremely pungent and did not dissipate for two to three days. While I appreciate a freshly cleaned room, the chemical smell was headache-inducing and unpleasant, especially at bedtime. Furthermore, the room was not properly cleaned. There was hair from a previous guest on the bathroom wall, and all the dishes and glasses in the kitchen cabinets were dirty. I had to load the dishwasher and run it myself. There is no maid service to change the linens or refresh the towels unless you schedule it ahead of time and are charged for the service. If there is accumulated garbage, you must dispose of it yourself by bringing it to a cinder block hallway off the ground floor near the fitness room. Additionally, there was no hot water in my room for two to three days. When I reported this to the only staff member I could find at the front desk, nothing was done. I was simply told they would email the HOA, and there was no follow-up.
The pool was advertised as heated to 95 degrees, but it was not properly heated. Furthermore, it is located right next to the street and the carport, which is visually unappealing and uncomfortable.
On a positive note, the Ski Valet was excellent. Everyone who worked there was helpful and efficient. However, they will not store polesâonly skis and boots. This became problematic, as several guests would forget their poles and have to return to their rooms to retrieve them before heading out for the day. Otherwise, the Ski Valet is the one bright spot in the entire operation. Additionally, the parking garage was efficient and easy to navigate. The fitness room was sufficient and I have no complaints.
In conclusion, I will return to Canyons but never again to Sundial Lodge. I realize that for the price, this is not a Four Seasons, but my experience was overwhelmingly unpleasant and...
Read moreWe were very disappointed with our experience of staying in apartment C407A at the Sundial Lodge in Canyons Village near Park City. It is absolutely not good value. We were on a 5 week holiday in the USA and this was by far the most expensive accommodation and was also the poorest. To put it into perspective we stayed at some lovely 5 star luxury hotels for much less, including the Grand America hotel in Salt Lake City and the Palazzo in Las Vegas where we stayed in extremely spacious and well appointed suites.|Our room in the Sundial had a partially painted ceiling in the living room/ bedroom room and in the en-suite. The half used tins of paint were even left in the wardrobe! The companyâs description of this âstudio style living room with a kitchenette â on which we based our booking was grossly inaccurate. It described a âjetted tub/shower combination bath that would provide a spa like experience â which turned out to be a walk in shower only. The âkitchenetteâ claimed to have âall the essentials to prepare light meals and snacks during your stayâ. While it has a coffee maker, microwave and refrigerator, there was not even a teaspoon, let alone any other cutlery, crockery or any kitchen utensils. Housekeeping initially said they could not provide any of this for us. Eventually they managed to russle up a few rudimentary items. The official advertising has now been slightly altered since our visit but I would still make specific enquiry about this apartment before booking.|The manager, who was rather elusive, having failed to call us back as promised, did agree to reimburse us for 1 of our nights although he was initially rather dismissive of our complaints. We did receive a refund but not for the amount he...
