Check in was quick and easy, though the person at the front desk seemed not to understand her own receipt and i had to ask 20 questions to get information about how to get to our room. Check in is late, at 4, and check out is early, at 11am. I have mobility issues and we asked about elevators and were told they had them but they put us in a building with steep stairs, broken walkways and caution tape. The walkway was rickety and the floors are very uneven. Makes me wonder about dry rot. The room was very clean, that's my only positive. The bathroom is beyond tiny and outfitted with a 70's toilet and shower. The sink tile was painted over then peeling away. The air conditioner has a thermostat but it doesn't go below 72 even when you set it so the room was too warm. We opened the very old sliding window for a few minutes to cool down, but people literally walk right next to it. There's zero security on the property and I saw homeless people walking through it. There are 2 old ish looking pools with hot tubs . The pool was COLD, hot tub small. A key isn't needed so anyone could come in. The drapes don't shut out the light and the room is directly under the gondola. So every time it passes, a shadow goes across the window. At first we thought people were walking in front of our room every 30 seconds until we realized what it was. Under our rooms is carports which they are apparently use to store things like work equipment. It is ugly..
After we checked in, someone left a paper at our door saying there would be people working on the cable from 9 to 4. At 930 the cable went down. I called the front desk and was told they wanted to send someone to my room to look at it. I'm in bed in my underwear! I reminded her about the cable work and she insisted since I was the only person to complain that it MUST be just my room and if I wanted help I'd have to let some guy in to look around. I told her to forget it. We spent over 200 dollars for one night. I didn't expect the Ritz, but this was worse than motel 6. Perhaps if we spent 300 dollars for a different room it would have been different, I don't know. The one highlight is that the place is right behind Heavenly Village. We went to Base Camp Pizza which was fabulous. We won't be returning to this...
Read moreWe stayed 2 nights in a 1 bedroom suite and it was huge. Full kitchen has everything but dish soap. It was very comfortable for 3 adults and one child.
They have a nice yard area located in the middle where we went and played in the snow immediately after unpacking and getting into our snow gear. It was our first time in south Tahoe and this location was within walking distance of heavenly village. location is perfect actually.
Things I liked: The heater worked well, the hot water got hot right away, bathroom counter had lots of space, towels were nice soft, and new. Sheets were clean, crisp and white. The staff was very attentive and responded quickly if we needed anything like extra pillows or towels etc. Events for the kids like hot cocoa hour and make your own smores.
Did not like: Breakfast was mix of just ok and blah, eggs were ok but the hash browns were most definitely freezer burned, the biscuits were ok but the gravy that went on top was grossly watered down, coffee was weak, the toaster is out of control and too high and will burn your piece of bread up to a crisp before you have a chance to save it. Let's just say we didn't wake up early the next day to catch breakfast before checking out.
No streaming services???. It's 2019, I think if they sold the DVD players in the rooms and installed streaming devices where you can log into your own Netflix or Hulu it would be a major Upgrade. We used our iPad and the wifi ran smoothly so we know they have the capability.
We opted to not have our room cleaned after the first night and received a nice energy pack of snacks for our drive back.
I wish I took more pics of the room.
Despite how it looked a little dated (like they stopped upgrading in 2004 for instance, DVD players in the room) we had a great time! The price was right! The staff were friendly and accommodating and location was just excellent!
Just FYI as we were leaving and putting everything in our car early morning Saturday we saw 3 sketchy AF Mofos (2 men, one tweeker lookin women) walking through the car port looking into the cars obviously looking to steal something... So never leave anything of value in your vehicle especially...
Read moreWonderful stay however there were a few negatives. As someone said, this is in-between a 2-3 star hotel. Its not as nice a Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express (the rooms are little dated at Forest Suites) but it is a nice size, the bed is fairly comfy. The good: We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite. As others said, you are within a 5-10 minute walking distance to transit village/Heavenly Gondolas, the nearby casinos, Raley's shopping center. We basically found little reason to move our car. Parking is free (there are carports near the rooms), Wi-Fi is free and there is free breakfast (similar to a Holiday Inn) every morning. They also have free coffee, tea and water available 24 hours a day in the lobby. The beds are fairly comfy but nothing is like home. They aren't the nicest bed I've ever slept on, but not the worst. There are two pools and two spas located within the grounds and easily accessible from the rooms. The room we were in had central heat/air which was nice because it was 76 degrees during the day and in the 50's at night. I didn't notice any noise from people walking down the hallway or next door. The staff was really nice and attentive (including when we randomly didn't have hot water on our last day, they remedied almost immediately). The bad: The bad really is the rooms. Typical hotel rooms have horrible down pillows, they instead have horrible latex pillows. I recommend unless you can sleep on a rock, bring your own pillow. The rooms are dated (which I can get over) however the toilet was too close to the wall and would rock against the wall each time you stood up (not a scary noise or anything). The shower head was the BIGGEST joke. I'm nearly 6 ft tall and the shower head was about to the middle of my neck. Certainly not a relaxing shower. The elevator is also terrifyingly small. You can fit 2 maybe three people in at a time. Overall, I do recommend staying here especially if you have a family or are nonsmoking. It was nice not to have to walk through a stinky casino every time we wanted to go somewhere. It was really convenient to be so close to everything and I think it actually helped us do more within...
