Stayed here in late August. This hotel does not pretend to be a fancy one, and I believe it is rated 2-star. However, it is located right on the Boardwalk and has sufficient parking. Staff is sufficiently attentive. Bathrooms are ok and clean. Rooms are clearly outdated. Furniture is worn out, super-small microwave is overly old and seriously worn out with a wind-up timer knob that does not allow to set precise cooking time. A weird thing is that clothes hangers are removed from the room, so you have to go to the counter to ask for them. Very small toiletry packages, cheapest tissue and toilet paper. No smoke alarm on the wall which is actually a violation of fire safety (owners, please note you can get fined for that!). Safe deposit box had a permanently stuck key in the lock, and when I reported that at the front desk, I was told, "We know, sorry." But, these are relatively small things that you will stop noticing once you settle down, if it was not for a relatively high room rate of about $250/nt. But compared to say Ramada next door that would have only marginally better rooms but for at least 30% higher price, that's decent for August. Also remember all rooms are facing the beach and have good views, even from the ground floor. Overall, it's a decent place to stay for a couple of nights. The fact that you can buy food very close buy and have a quick bite in your room is convenient. All attractions are right there on the Boardwalk. There are good restaurants, snack and gift shops. I am posting some pictures of the room - but that's not to deter visitors but rather to point to owners that those are not so difficult problems to fix to make the place more attractive and drive more business. I am just a DIYer, not a pro, but I could plaster walls and put a coat of wood stain and polyurethane, and paint here and there in just a couple of hours and it would cost under a couple hundred bucks per room. I know property taxes and operational expenses are probably killing you, but there are lots of small improvements you can do to ramp up your revenue. For example, you could install vending machines in your check-in lobby, and you have plenty of space for that. Having your cleaning crew moving furniture a bit to get trash behind it, installing newer microwaves that cost less than $50, or slightly bigger TVs, etc. I still recommend this place for budget travelers and will stay there again myself and will look forward to seeing this small hotel in a better shape. This is why I am giving a 4 star rating...
Read moreI will begin with the positives. The hotel was very accommodating and the service was decent. I realize every business in the world exists by selling products and services. So to that, I rate the location 5 stars as it is on the ocean front very close to King Neptune in VA Beach. Now the not-so-good. The Ocean 27 hotel misrepresented itself online with an image of its neighbor, showing a high rise and not a three-story building as it is. The room had clean sheets and pillows, but that is where the cleanliness stopped. The room had cakes of dust on every surface, with no evidence of even a weekly dusting during the off-season. The tub shower combo could not shut off, which meant listening to running water all night. The two chairs were dirty with what appeared as coffee, urine, and others. They were ripped and unstable. The HVAC system fan was extremely noisy and sounded rusty. Not to mention, I coughed and sneezed all night, which was probably due to no maintenance of the HVAC system. So now I am hearing running water, rusty fan, and my sinuses are going crazy. Online, the hotel advertised a restaurant and showed a menu with an outdoor patio, but again, that was the neighbor. All in all, I get it if you are in the business of selling hotel rooms, at least be upfront and honest and allow consumers an opportunity to decide based on the truth. I stayed because I only needed one night and knew I would be leaving at zero dark thirty in the A.M. Ocean 27, there are a lot of families who travel to the ocean front who have children with respiratory conditions and other illnesses. Please, I am not saying to break the bank in upgrades, but at the least, implement better quality control in areas of cleaning, maintenance, and advertising. I am a military vet from the area, and I know many others who rely on hotels like yours to enjoy the ocean front as I know you rely on us to sustain your business. At the least, please offer a clean, quiet, and honest place to stay when we come to town. I am willing to upgrade my rating if you reach out and show me you improved those areas I stated and implemented a quality control process to protect your customers. Otherwise, I will caution people to stay away from your establishment. My only regret is I did not take pictures to provide further evidence...
Read moreThis was the WORST hotel experience of my life ! On arrival we had to wait 15 minutes because no one was up front. There was black hair all over BOTH beds, they did change the sheets when I told them about it. It is one thing to have an outdated hotel but this was SOOOO DIRTY. Walls had spills on them , MOLD on the ceiling near the door (that we did not notice until we were leaving otherwise I would have not stayed there). First night when we came back from dinner there was no where for us to park. The lady at the front told us to leave our car in the MIDDLE of the parking lot , blocking everyone in, she said she would call me in am when people needed to leave...ummm WHAT ?!? The walls are so thin that you can hear everyone in the next rooms ... Like full conversations .As we were leaving we noticed a patch of black mold on the ceiling by the door. I was going upfront to complain and there was so many people at the counter that I just left because we had reservations. Called the next day and tried to tell the hotel manger what the problem was , he was very rude and put me on hold for 15 min, I called back and he said that I should have said something to management (as I was telling him We SAW IT WHEN WE WERE LEAVING, ) HE did not care about what I had to say nor did he offer to compensate us in any shape or form. He stated that if I slept in the room that it is not his problem and I should have said something and than He hung up the phone on me. We paid $600 to stay there this past weekend. This is insane to me that I paid this much money for this. I should have read the reviews before going there, last minute situation. THERE are so many reviews on here about MOLD and DIRT and he acted like it was a surprise for him to hear. OH and the pool was soo dirty with stuff at the bottom . Please dot't waste your money !!!! I dont care if its $60 off season , this place needs to be shut down by health...
