I am not a massive beer fan, and while I like craft beer, I wouldn't call myself a connoisseur. However, this place nailed it! I come from a place that is huge on craft beer, but currently live in a country that isn't, so this was a treat.
Their beer list is phenomenal. Absolutely huge, which is exactly what I want to see at a place like this. The best part is that even with the sampler, they include bottled and canned beers! No other beer hall I've been to has ever included anything but draft beer in their sampler paddles.
We found a seat indoors at the shared table and settled into the menu. There were so many options that sounded really good, and I debated just settling for a single beer rather than the sampler to ensure I got what I really wanted.
The server came by and asked me about my preferences in terms of beer styles, tastes, and dislikes. I know generally what I like so I told her that. I didn't mention any particular beers by name or indicate specifics in any way.
When she returned with my sampler, it was absolutely perfect. It was like she or the beertender read my mind! I got ALL the ones I was curious about! It was as if the universe lined up perfectly for this tasting. It even included options with many of my favourite hops (they were just missing my ultimate which is Sabro, but they had no way of knowing this).
I ended up with a great mixture of wheat beers, IPA, triple IPA, and sours.
For a single person, it was a lot of beer. I couldn't finish it all. These are huge sample glasses so for the price and the quality of the beer, it is great value. I would ideally prefer to share this with another person. While every single beer wasn't outstanding (that would be impossible), every single one was good quality and none were unappealing. They were all in my wheelhouse. I liked all of them, and would definitely order a few of them again as full pints.

Read moreAny craft beer lover MUST stop here at least once while you’re in Prague. The staff is highly knowledgeable and generous with their service and education of customers. The craft beer scene in the Czech Republic has taken off significantly over the past several years, and the level of quality is fantastic. Everything U Kunstatu serves is made locally!
Sour beers (mostly kettle soured) and hazy IPAs have gained a lot of popularity lately, but the long held traditions in the region of making excellent lagers still holds true in the local craft scene and are well represented on the menu.
Bonus cool fact: the whole place is in the ground floor of one of the oldest buildings in Prague, with parts dating to the 12th century. Apparently the Roman foundations are still visible...
