I had came in when they had first opened this morning to take my J12 watch to the Chanel store inside Neiman Marcus to have a few links removed since it was loose upon when it was gift to me by my boyfriend (I had called yesterday and spoke with an associate from Chanel and he stated that they would be able to remove the links for me so long as I come within store hours). Unfortunately, when I was in Chanel, one of the store associates told me that since they did not have the tools to remove the links on site, my only option would be for them to send it off which would take up to two months, since they were backed up on repairs and alterations due to COVID. The store associate was polite and redirected me to a neighboring jeweler that was in Neiman Marcus as well (about 300 feet away at a stand alone counter) that would be able to remove the links so that I would not have to send away my beautiful watch for two months through Chanel for a simple alteration. When I walked over to the jewelry counter, the lady who was at the counter told me the only way she could remove the links, was if the J12 watch was purchased at Neiman Marcus. I had already told her it was a gift from my boyfriend so I wasn’t sure and I also told her that her neighboring associates at Chanel, who were 300 feet away were the ones who sent me to her. She asked if I wanted to call my boyfriend to see if he got my watch from Neiman Marcus. First of all how classless and rude is it to ask someone where they purchased your gift? I’m not sure if it was because I was a person of color & she thought the watch was stolen or that I wasn’t dressed in designer this and that (mind you I was not dressed homely or anything - I was in a north face puffer coat and some brand new vans because on my off day at 11am, I’m not going to be dolled up like Vana White, but also I was not appearing as Halle Berry’s character in Jungle Fever either). I was willing to pay whatever just to have two simple links removed. She suggested that I should go to Tourneau and they would be able to help me. I ended up walking away because God forbid the woman of color gets an attitude at Neiman Marcus. I walked to Tourneau, only to find out the watchman was not going to be there today so it was a waste of a walk. I came back to Chanel and told the same sales associate that I was unsuccessful with her original suggestion of visiting the fellow jeweler who snubbed me originally. What made it worse was that the manager at Chanel who was there said how the situation was weird because an associate at Chanel had recently visited that same jewelry counter to have a simpler watch alteration, and they were catered to. The manager then proceeded to tell me how the associates at that particular jewelry counter “pick and choose who they want to deal with.” Now as for Chanel, the associates were quite kind and helpful but as for that other place and judging by the other similar reviews of many of the associates at different departments judgmental attitudes - they should be ashamed of themselves. Not all wealthy people are dressed down in designer this and that in public, and at the same token just because you see someone dressed in Dior or Gucci, does not mean they are wearing that same look inside their debit cards. Read moreAfro Americans BE WARE! Shopping from Charlotte, NC I visited the ATL store to return a Father’s Day gift of a bottle of Tom Ford cologne. I was met by a rude associate not willing to assist because I chose to return & not an exchange. With RECEIPT from my Newman’s card I was given push back because the wrapping was open. I explained how could I determine I didn’t care for the fragrance if I hadn’t opened it. I asked to speak to a manager & Pam Cox (Shoe Manager) came over I explained I was visiting the store & gave her fact based information & she agreed to take my return and would e-mail my receipt. Pam Cox mention ATL was the biggest fraudulent market so they frowned on returns. I shared I was offended by that statement as the cologne was purchased on my Neiman's card & the return was accompanied with a receipt. She went on the infer that this “culture” (referring to African Americans) has all types of schemes & tricks to defraud our store. I assured her that this wasn’t case & I’d like to be treated as such. The next day traveling back to Charlotte i realized I hadn’t received the e-mail confirming my return as I left the merchandise with Pam. I called the store to get an update & was informed that Pam decided not to return the item because of a decision made by customer service & by this time I was livid to say the least!! I began to creditably challenge her asking who in customer service made such decision & press her on why not after she lied & apologized for the inconvenience & ill treatment the night before. It wasn’t until I reached out to the Charlotte Neiman Marcus store manager having them to call Pam & validate who I was & my shopping tenure. I promised to destroy my card & never shop the store again. I vowed to use every platform afforded to me to share this experience to all buyers especially African Americans. Needless to say my credit was IMMEDIATELY returned to my card.
It is unfortunate that a law abiding, tenured African American customer is subject to these horrible tactics from a major retailer. I have reached out to the store’s executive office on three separate occasions & to date to no avail. It is my belief that this treatment & behavior flows top down! African...
Read moreI went into the store to complete a return on a few items that were ordered for me online through the store. I initially went to the department where the clothing items belonged to to do the return but no one was available for assistance. After waiting 5-10 minutes, I walked over to the department next door and before I could even ask if i can get assistance with finding the person who works in the department I was waiting in, the associate vocalized that he can't do the return. I proceeded to let him know that I had no desire to return the clothing items in his jewelry/accessories department. He then directed me to go downstairs to customer service. As soon as I made it to the lower level, an older female associate instructed me to go back upstairs to do the return (I was carrying boxes) and she specified where to go. I went back up stairs to the area that was suggested and no one was there! At this point, I'm so annoyed by the amount of time I've wasted in the store. After waiting a minute or two with no help, I went back downstairs to attempt finding customer service. It was not easy to find at all. I asked an associate and he directed me where it was. Again, at this point, I'm annoyed and very frustrated. As i walk in the direction towards customer service, another female associate attempts to give me directions to go elsewhere for the return (I had not even made it to customer service). This was my boiling point. I exclaimed to her that she and her associates have had me going back and forth and that I will no longer go on any more silly goose chases. In that instance, I demanded her to accompany wherever she wants to direct me to do the return because I'm livid and frustrated at this point. She obliged and as I followed her, she came across an associate who could do the return so I ended up staying downstairs and the lady that I made the demand with passed me along to the female associate who could do the return. All in all, I will never step foot in this store EVER again!!! I had never experienced such terrible...
