WOW. We are local but haven't been to this Dollar General in a long time. We were in Helen, tired from a very active day, and it was getting late so my son and I ran in to this location for a quick snack and something for dinner. The place was an absolute mess. Most DGs near here are a mess, but this one was something else. Some aisles were so cramped with box carts and empty boxes that we had to squeeze through. They didn't have the pizza I wanted, but I got a different one and we got a few snacks and went to get some cold drinks. My son opened the door and said it "smelled weird". I went over and it did have a weird smell, maybe a chemical or cleaner smell? I told him they may have just cleaned the coolers and he grabbed his drink. I went over to get myself an energy drink from the same cooler, a couple of doors down and immediately noticed mold on the front of the shelves. I told him we had to put his drink back, as I didn't feel comfortable drinking anything out of a cooler with mold growing in it. We went to a separate cooler, which had nothing but Mountain Dew products. Not either of our first choices, but we were thirsty and tired, so that's what we got. We got up to the front and there were about 3 people in front of us. One was being helped at the first register by two women. The man who was next in line went over to the self-checkout and began putting his things down. One of the women informed him that the self-checkout register wasn't available. He had to pick his items back up and get back in line. When I was finally the next in line, one of the women came over and checked me out at the self-checkout. Apparently, the register works, but it's no longer a "self-checkout". While I did appreciate her helping me so I didn't have to wait longer, it was awkward because she had to reach over from behind the counter in order to scan the items on a machine that is meant for the customer to easily reach, not the cashier. I thanked her and walked out with two bags. 2 drinks and a bag of chips in one, and a wrapped pizza (this brand does not come in a box) and a bag of Cheetos in the other. As soon as I got out the door, one of the bags split all the way up the side and my pizza fell out and onto the ground. There were no sharp corners, nor was the bag heavy in the least, yet here it is ripping apart in front of people as they walk by, so kind of embarrassing. The utter filth of this store is shocking. Does corporate not even bother coming to look at stores anymore? Most DGs within driving distance are not up to par, but this is by far the worst one I've...
Read moreI realize they are understaffed. I really like the people that work there...but I cant STAND when they close 10 or 15 minutes early. this is the only store within 25 minutes of my home. when you close at 10pm.....DONT LOCK THE DOOR UNTIL 10PM. you have to do better. nobody likes their jobs. I get it. ut I cant close early just because. im so dissapointed in them dude. that is such a shitty lazy attitude. to save yourself what??? 15 minutes??? gross. ive been standing at the door for 15 minutes. I guess they decided to close 15 minutes early tonight. super dissapointed in them. I will be going to the other dollar general near my home...
Read moreThis place... always messy, misleading prices, a huge inconvenience to return anything, the credit payment kiosks are always malfunctioning which always leads to a line to the back of the store. 3 out of 4 shopping trips here result in at least 25 minutes spent in line. Their computer system is from the 1990's. There is rarely anything convenient about shopping here. They have 2 registers but only one is ever open. The only redeeming factor is that the employees are usually pretty good sports about the ordeal. I have called corporate and spoken to the district manager and he doesn't seem to care so now I avoid shopping there if I...
