My husband, father-in-law, and I were in the mood for pizza, so we went to get a bite to eat at Slice of Helen. We’ve never been there before. The whole non-smoking area of the restaurant was completely empty. The only occupied area was the bar. We sit down and ordered a ham and pineapple pizza. Waiter puts it in and leaves us to talk. About 5 minutes later we decided we also wanted buffalo wings, so he put that order in for us as well. Wings came out within a few minutes, but there was literally NO sauce on them. He offered to take them back and replaced with fresh wings. We didn’t want him to go to the trouble of doing that, so we just requested a little bit of sauce. We had to sauce our own wings. Whatever, no big deal. He took the wings off the bill. He did not have to do that. I didn’t mind paying for the wings since he resolved the issue. The kicker was the pizza. That comes out after about 15 minutes of ordering. We had to wait about 10 minutes for the pizza to cool down before we served it onto our plates because all the toppings wanted to fall off. Again, not that big of a deal because we understand that the pizza just came out of the oven. We each have a slice, and were not impressed! My husband went to pick up another slice and everything (cheese and all toppings) fell off (mind you, this is after it’s been cooled off) because the crust was paper thin and very soggy! It was so soggy, that when he went to lightly touch the bottom of the slice, it tore apart! His finger went right through it as if it was like a soft rotten tomato! Waiter came by with our check and I told him (as gentle as can be) that we were not happy with our pizza. I tried to express our concerns and he immediately interrupted me to go get the manager. Manager sends him back out to rudely tell us there is nothing they could do since they already took the wings off the bill. That’s not fair. We couldn’t even finish the pizza unless we wanted to eat “sloppy cheese casserole” with a fork and knife! So he leaves again to get the owner. Owner comes out with him and I kindly say “we’re not trying to get out of paying. We just want this made right. At least only charge us half price for the pizza since we cant even finish it.” I let him know that when you have to sauce your own wings and top your own pizza, that’s pretty ridiculous. He didn’t want to deal with us. We were not being rude whatsoever, but he felt the need to ignore our concerns, kick us out, and tell us to not come back ever again. (I promise you mr. owner, we would not even dream about...
Read moreThe good: The pizza wasnt half bad. It's honestly better than the chains. Good dough and toppings so there is some sliver of hope there
The bad: We waited for a good hour( at least)for our food. I was at the point of being hangry. The crazy part is the place was half full.
Look, I'm totally on board if you're place is jammed on the 4 of July, but c'mon now. The poor souls behind us had to get their food to go. I know they had a good 45 minutes before our we were seated.
The sad thing is there was nothing communicated by the manager. I overheard the same when I paid the bill. Her slant was people need to realize that they were training new folks and a list of other irrelevant things.
As a manager... it's your job to communicate to patrons and the staff that the kitchen is new, behind, short on cheese or whatever the narrative is. Let the customer decide if the want to wait x amount of minutes before even ordering food.
I'll mention two other things that raised my brow. One.. younger kid that was a waiter who seemed to have the customer service side handled. Dude was getting food out and explaining wait times. The problem is that you can't carry your vape pen on the floor and take a drag as you pass through the smoking section 😎😁!! I admire his zeal even if it was misplaced.
Two... I hear the manager say that another resturant owes them cheese. Fine, stores do trades all the time but c'mon now.. lets repo some cheese... really? How about repo more supplies and some extra hands ma'am.
I've read where customers have been asked not to order certain items (onions, veggies.. ) because the place may run out of an item??? Okay .... totally reasonable😎
Last thing... Poor guy next to me looked miserable. He mentioned something his order was missing cheese. One of his kids ordered spaghetti and she got some other pasta covered in sauce. The clincher was when his wife's cheeseburger showed up.
He said " You got yourself a hand crafted burger.. it took them an hour to make it".
Lmao!! Folks you have...
Read moreMy lady and me went to this place and from the outside didn't know it was a bar also. They seated is after about 10 minutes and ordered food a few minutes later. Its was 50 minutes later before we even got appetizers and during this time we seen 5 drunks stumble around, one waitress urging with what appeared to be a boyfriend. We could see the kitchen area and see the staff drinking in the job and one s.oking in the back and taking a break ever 10 minutes. He would walk thru the doors from the smoking area into the non smoking area with a cigarette in his mouth. The waitress was rude and couldn't give an answer why we haven't got our food yet but she could definitely wait on the drunks at the bar and bring them food instead. Definitely not a place for kids to eat pizza at when you have drunks all over the place and letting them carry 7 to 8 inches knives on there sides. And can't believe they let the drinking and smoking go on in the kitchen area with the doors wide open to the bar and smoking area also. Dehec needs to check this place out and shut the bar down, if it's a pizza place for tourist and kids make it a decent place for that. We seen at least 50 people walk in and turn right back around and live when they seen all the drunks at the bar and some of them even heard the arguments goin on with employees. They would even tell customers it's a wait of 20 t0 30 minutes cause they don't have any tables open although there was at least 5 tables open in the back. I believe they should shut the place down and let someone else open a real business up, and get rid of the bar and drunks....I thought you could only serve so many drinks to a person. Guess the limit is until you pass out then when you wake up you can leave and drive yourself home. I will never go back to that place and don't recommend anyone...
