We were very excited to visit because we love German stuff (food, crafts, etc) and the facebook buzz made it seem like an awesome place to stay and explore. Unfortunately is was very underwhelming. There were some cute and interesting things to see, and the riverfront area was pretty, but overall it was dirty, run down, and mostly a tourist trap with loads of unauthentic tourist garbage stores. We did not feel safe in the paid parking, which was the usual tourist trap ripoff as far as cost, and the parking attendants were even sketchy).    Read moreThis summer at the end of July I went to Helen GA let me tell you this place is so beautiful. It had incredible view of the mountains as you are about to enter Helen. Then as you enter you feel like your in Germany. All the buildings were so cool looking and had character to them. First went water tubing it was the most incredible experience for me. You were in the river and as you were floating you felt at piece and calm. It was very therapeutic and it was surrounded by beautiful old trees that added so much character to them. There are many different things to do just outside of town its a short drive to Anna Ruby falls which is very scenic and a must see while visiting Helen.
