Discount Spirits of Helen is my "go to" for all my take-home liquor and beer purchases in this area.

Not only do they have an enormous selection of everything C₂H₆O but the facility is always clean and the service is much friendlier than other spirits stores I have visited.

I'm ALL about friendly faces and Sam (the owner) is 5 stars! The lady that works there is also nice. Sam, however, IS the reason why I'm a huge fan of this small business.

Sam is supremely friendly, communicative, and greets us with a warm smile - even if we stop in 2 minutes before closing.

The prices here are reasonable and the wide selection of products surpasses all other retailers in Helen.

Sure, we can spend our moolah in a store closer to us, but I'd rather make the extra effort and drive to Discount Spirits of Helen to receive the best service in the mountain town of Helen, Georgia. Sam laughs at my sarcasm, because I forever roll with jokes. I can't help being cynical, and Sam picks up what I throw down. Good stuff!

When I'm walking around with my cat in his stroller, I'll stop in, grab me a small bottle of whatever and a mixer, throw it in my "day cup" to continue my Alpine wandering properly. I won't purchase Bud Light or any other Anheuser-Busch product, but everything else is a winner here. #facts

When purchasing wine, I was putting back a bottle of merlot in the cooler. The bottle behind it tipped over the side (1inch high) and the over foot tall heavy glass bottle fell to the concrete floor on the inside of the cooler. It broke. I could do nothing to stop it from falling. However, within 1 minute, the clerk rushed back to the area and informed me that since I broke the item I had to pay for it. (There is a sign posted at check out saying so.). I paid for the accidental breakage but I feel that I should not have since the bottle was in a place I could not prevent the fall. The store should have higher edging in their cooler shelves to prevent this from happening. The break could have been prevented if the store made one simple fix- raise the sides of the wire shelves to prevent heavy wine bottles from tipping over and falling onto the inner cooler concrete floor. I don’t feel that I am fully at blame for the breakage in this instance. I will not be returning...

Y'all. Obviously, this is a great place to get German beers that are hard (or close to impossible) to find elsewhere, but the staff are SO nice, friendly, helpful. My Mother's Day gift from my children was all the smoke beer they had. They drove 2 hours to get it for me. The reason I'm giving this place a 5-star for this is because one of my sons bought it all Saturday 9:30am, and told them to say nothing if I came in looking for it. I went in at 1pm the same day, with the plan to buy everything they had. It was sold out completely (of course) and the lady that works there told me someone from Germany had come in on Thursday and cleaned them out. Someone from Germany, NOT my very own child, hours before. Thank you for having it in the first place, and keeping it a secret so I could be surprised. We just bought a place up there and I'll never shop anywhere...
