Where shall I begin…This was indeed a noteworthy Bed & Breakfast and a true hidden gem tucked away upon a steep hillside in the heart of Helen, Georgia. After an extremely long road trip of almost 600 miles in the pouring rain, one of the proprietors were so kind to wait on us until we arrived (which was well after midnight) with our room key and welcomed us to the property, with a brief tour. ||Upon walking into the room…I thought in a single word, “DETAILS!” I adored the details and focus on the well-styled rustic mountain and bear motif poured into the space that surrounded me. The wood had a natural tone with tongue and groove joints, there were intricate detailed hand-painted murals along the walls and a headboard that was hand carved with bears, each intertwined in a jazz ensemble, this was my favorite piece of art in the room. (To the true art or jazz connoisseur, this is a piece that would catch your eye in less than a minute!) There was a radiating warmth exuded by the fireplace and an inviting oversized jacuzzi. (Equipped with delicious, scented bath herbs.) All the makings for a good night’s sleep. ||On the way to breakfast, I quickly noticed the waterfall and relaxing coy pond on the back side of the property, a definite ‘can’t miss spot’, as well as a gorgeous live edge wooden wooing bench out front…very Shakespearean. The breakfasts were delicious and always delightfully different every single morning that we were there. ||We have stayed in many places during frequent visits to North Georgia and Helen, from cabins to standard hotels, new hotels, Inns, and places that have some type of supposed authenticity factor about them. I can honestly say that for me personally, regarding authenticity, level of service, detail and commitment, this place simply “takes the cake” because of the heart in all that goes in to making each guest’s experience ‘one of a kind.’ ||Angie educated me on how the original Bed and Breakfast House was built around 1962 and has been constantly added on throughout the years, remodeled and built on to. As I continually learn about the property, my appreciation blossoms even more so. As a person who is immersed within the hospitality industry in some way shape or fashion, I believe it is important to look around ourselves at times and to take in our surroundings, I mean “really take it all in” and to look inside of the book, rather than to simply judge it by its cover. Regardless of how old or new a place is, I find that there is beauty and kindness to be found if it truly “IS” there. Every day here it felt as if we were discovering treasure, that’s how rare and unique this place is…there is so much charm to be found here.||Thank you, Angie, Terry, and the rest of the cheerful staff, for providing EXCEPTIONAL service and such a SUPERIOR level of Southern hospitality. When people are so genuinely kind, it makes the journey all worthwhile.||We look forward to...

We really liked this place. It is right at the beginning of the main street and walkable to everything. We hardly drove the car once we got there. The room was clean with a comfortable bed. Rooms are theme decorated with murals on the walls. Being right on the main road there is a lot of traffic that goes by. But that really wasn't an issue. I did not hear road noise as I thought I would. We stayed in room #3 on the second floor above the parking lot looking toward the road. If we go back, we will stay there again. I think I would request room #4 because there is a little outside seating area at the end next to the room that is private. I didn't think to bring hangers for my clothes. There is a wardrobe to hang clothes but no hangers. There is a small table and two chairs to sit in. The chairs are not comfortable for more than just a few minutes. It rained during part of our trip, and I would like to have had a comfortable chair to sit in to read. I am not fond of sitting up in bed for three hours. But those are the only suggestions I'd have for the room. Oh, the fridge is super cold. Loved that! Breakfast was fresh every morning and delicious. Eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit, and a different kind of pancakes each morning. They have snacks, coffee, and a huge selection of tea available all the time. It is very homey with very friendly hosts. They asked every morning if we needed anything, how is the room, etc. Terry made sure we knew all the places to go. He seemed to genuinely want us to enjoy our stay and our visit to Helen. Angie was the same. I don't remember the name of the other lady. But everyone there made it feel like we were staying at a friend's house. I sat in a cozy little gazebo each morning with my coffee while I waited on my husband to wake up. They have a very well behaved young dog named Daisy, too. She is so sweet! I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else...

So much to say The only way you'd feel let down by these fine people is to have very unrealistic expectations.

From the staff to the rooms to the location, this is a beyond superb choice for your stay in Helen.

The room we stayed in, 12, was spacious, spotless and well appointed including the heart shaped jacuzzi which hardly anyone has anymore.

You simply cannot go wrong choosing to stay here.

Yall are going to think these reviews are hyperbolic and over the top. You simply will not understand what we're saying until you experience it for yourselves.

The gremlins like to mess with my plans and they did this time with the catalytic convertor on the wife's car. Angie worked with us and even offered to allow us to check in after hours if we could get our end of the issue resolved.

While waiting for the reservation, I asked about the breakfast as I have specific diet needs. Angie offered to cook specifically for them but turns out, the breakfast already included foods appropriate for me and my health needs and being an old farm kid, I've got a hearty appetite, and I never left the breakfast table hungry.

From the room to the staff to the patio to the koi pond and the little extras they do, you simply can't make a better choice.

The most important part of any vacation is where you're gonna hide away at. You simply will not regret making this, your choice...

Gary, his daughter Angie, and Darlene were absolutely wonderful, super friendly, attentive and helpful. I wish I could leave a review for best breakfast in Helen but it’s just for guests - so feel special. Fresh fruit every day that is ripe. Great coffee. Always eggs and bacon. Sometimes country ham or other delicious sausage. And the pancakes were my favorite. We were there for 4 mornings so blueberry, walnut, banana and last and my favorite apple pancakes. I have to go back just to try the peach next time! The rooms are small and cozy and cute. Has a TV and small table. Very clean and the heart shaped hot tub is great for two. Love the location at the south end of town. There’s Bettys grocery right across the street that has EVERYTHING and a bar. Plus upon leaving I’m pretty sure it’s right across from the street that they drop the tubes in so thinking we could park at the end of town and walk back to the room and get out tubes and launch ourselves and drive back. Live music at several close locations and church bells are beautiful. Another hidden gem that my wife discovered 5 years ago. This was our second time and a longer stay so gained more appreciation for the location and amenities and hospitality! Was a perfect place for a romantic getaway.

The Black Forest Bed and Breakfast was wonderful, a place I will definitely visit again. The staff was awesome, they remember their guests and the needs of each guest. The room I stayed in was the Bear Cabin and it was perfect. The room was clean and fresh looking and smelling. They provide plenty of towels, and other items you may forget; corkscrew, bath beads, and paper towels. The jacuzzi tub was my favor part of the room, it had a running waterfall behind the tub. They advertise these cabins for romantic getaway; however, I went to Helen, Ga to get some much-needed rest. I did not feel awkward because I was not part of a couple, they welcomed me and made me feel like I was home. I am not much of a breakfast person; however, you will become one after having breakfast at the Black Forrest Bed and Breakfast. Each morning we had eggs, bacon, sausage, different types of pancakes, and grits. There were coffee and different types of juices. In addition, they had little snacks such as protein bars, danishes, cinnamon rolls, and coffee cake for the people on the run. If you are looking for a great vacation spot in Helen, I strongly suggest you try Black Forest Bed and Breakfast, you will not be sorry.

Wow! More than I expected. The warm hospitality of this family, who runs this bed and breakfast is unmatched in my travels. I wish I could have stayed forever. They home cook breakfast for you every morning and their pancakes are to die for! I had Bueberry, Walnut, Apple, and Sweet potato! Scramble eggs with cream cheese and a selection of fruits and meats and all the extras where fantastic! Coffee great too! Touches of Germany everywhere and you can even eat your breakfast outside next to the Koy waterfall/pond. I stayed in the Black Forest Cabin and it was hard to leave every day to go out and explore the the Helen. The family made you feel like you were at home away from home. They constantly asked if you need anything, just let us know! When I arrived, they walked me around and showed me everything and then, they also took time to show all the hot spots around Helen on a map. I've never had a hotel go into that depth to make sure their customers are happy. Stationed in Germany for 6 and a 1/2 years I definitely felt I went back in time! Thank you Terry, Angie and Denise! God bless you all and I will definitely be back!
