Big Kat's Barbershop — Local services in Houston

I like this place for a few big reasons:

It's a barbershop and not that there's anything wrong with how previous stylists have cut my hair, but I feel like these guys, who specialize in men's cuts, just have it down. No appointments; walk-ins only. Often times, I want to get a hair cut but might not want to commit to a certain time because I don't know what surrounding obligations will entail. Last time I went to Big Kat's, I was sat within a couple minutes (I think that was a fast day; I think some reviews have mentioned waiting 20 minutes or so) and out of there in under 30 minutes total. Chill environment and friendly staff. Everyone was laid back / joking the whole time. The quality of cut is good. They know what they're doing and can make recommendations if you're unsure of...

I hover between a 3 and a 4 here. There are so great barbers here, some good barbers and a few lousy ones. The biggest problem I have is, bc you are randomly assigned a barber when you arrive, the results of the haircut are very inconsistent. Elvis and Ronnie are my top two - both did a great job for me. Big is solid too. All three provided great service and solid haircuts. Have also had others cut and they butchered the cuts, the last guy who cut me - I felt like he did exactly the opposite of what I asked for. I wish I could but book with my preferred barber - it would make this 5-star. My rating is a 3.5 rounding up...

I'm a suit & tie guy, no tattoos, no motorcycle, non-musician, and I've always been comfortable at Big Kat's. I've been taken care of by Bart, Jared, Joe or Big E once a month, every month for probably close to a year.

The guys do crack jokes, but mostly on each other. I have never heard them talk behind a customer's back, unless it was a friend of theirs.

They do get busy, and they don't take appointments, so plan accordingly. There are times when the waits are shorter but I'm not telling when.

Oh - and really nice haircuts, with hot shaving cream, straight razor neck trims and clean tapers. Quality work from...
