I have lived at Riverside for two+ years and really loved my experience here on the whole. I'm moving out of JC (for reasons completely unrelated to my living situation) and wanted to wait until I was leaving to write a full and honest review.
My 1 BR unit is located on the 32nd floor and I have a pretty spectacular view of the empire state building. My unit is a legit touch under 800 square feet (they advertise it as 792, they aren't lying which is a breath of fresh air.)
I will say not to expect a full on modern luxury building with five star amenities, but they don't advertise it as such either. Honestly for the price point of the units in the area, its pretty tough to do better than you can do here unless those top of the line features are a must for you.
Im honestly a bit baffled at the bad reviews of the concierges, they've all been great to be (shoutouts to Edwin, Judy and Virginia in particular.) I've had no issues with maintenance either as all my requests have been completed in a timely manner.
On the downside, the elevator situation can get a bit sketchy as its common that there are only two (or one) of the three running at any given moment and the laundry room can get pretty crowded (no in unit laundry in any of the units in the building.) The ventilation system in my kitchen was also pretty terrible and I'm not sure that it did anything other than just make noise and give off the illusion that it was actually doing something.
The trash rooms on my floor got pretty grimy at times, but that is 100% the fault of some of the tenants on my floor.
The elevator/kitchen sitch are really the only things knocking this rating down from five stars and if you live on a lower floor the elevator may not even matter as the stairs are usually an option.
I love the serenity of Newport and if you're looking for a spacious and fairly priced living situation with accessibility to transportation (its a legit three minute walk to the Newport path station), groceries, coffee shops, etc. but with out crazy amenities, I would highly recommend checking out Riverside. Newport on the whole is also one of the most dog friendly places on the planet and the Riverside building has a fenced in area for your pooch to run around just steps from the entrance (this was installed just a few months ago and my dog loves it.) Newport Is a great place to live if you have a family or need a domicile of solitude after working in the quagmire of madness that Manhattan has a tendency to be. I will genuinely miss it and my unit...
Read moreMy roommate abandoned the lease and left the country on June 1st, 2025. From June 1st to October 4th, I have solely paid the rent for both myself and my roommate in order to keep the lease valid. This was a clear case of lease abandonment by my roommate, which constitutes a breach of contract.
Despite this, your office insists that the deposit “belongs” to my roommate, even though she violated the lease and I am also a party to the contract. I find this position unacceptable and unfair. I have acted in good faith, fully performing my obligations under the lease while taking on additional financial burden due to my roommate’s default.
I hereby demand that the deposit be rightfully returned to me, or at minimum, applied against the rent I have paid on behalf of my roommate. Failing to do so will leave me no choice but to: File a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) regarding your business practices. Initiate a claim in Small Claims Court to recover the amount I am legally entitled to.
I urge you to reconsider your position immediately. Please confirm your resolution of this matter within 7 business days of receiving this notice. If I do not receive a satisfactory response, I will proceed with filing complaints and pursuing legal action without...
Read moreThat front desk woman called Virginia is absolutely a terrible and selfish person. There are so many residents complaining and wanting to report her (or already reported her). She almost ruined this building’s reputation and really makes the whole Newport rental look bad by having such a person having nasty attitude and selfish act. Everyone is avoiding her to pick up packages because she is just so terrible to interact with. No one likes her and why the Newport management team still lets such a person work here? She makes everything difficult for all the residents. Please do something. If you have a vote in this building she be out in no time. PS. everyone else is angel - yea I’m talking about Judy and Randolph blessed...
