Review for 888 S Hope Street - DTLA
If you care about your time, your money, or basic human decency, stay far away from 888 S Hope Street. This building isn’t just unfriendly — it’s actively running a predatory towing scam right in front of its residents and visitors.
On March 4, 2025, between 7:15 and 7:30 PM, I personally witnessed multiple cars towed within minutes — not by accident, not after warnings, but as part of a coordinated shake-down operation. The front desk staff and the security guard on duty were working hand-in-hand with Metro Towing Inc., signing paperwork and practically handing over cars like prizes on a game show.
No warnings. No courtesy. No grace period. Nothing. You stop for a second, you’re gone. Delivery drivers, visitors, service workers — everyone is prey. This is not parking enforcement; this is extortion with a luxury label slapped on it.
Metro Towing Inc. and 888 S Hope have clearly built a pipeline to tow as many cars as possible, as fast as possible, to profit off people just trying to do their jobs or visit friends and family. It’s disgusting behavior and it reflects directly on the management and ownership of this building.
If you live here, understand your building is complicit in ripping off your guests and deliveries. If you’re thinking about moving in, know this: you and anyone who visits you will be treated like criminals the second they pull up.
To the management at 888 S Hope: This isn’t luxury. It’s legalized robbery. You should be ashamed, and so should your front desk, your security, and your towing partners at Metro Towing Inc.
Avoid this building at all costs. There are dozens of other properties in DTLA that won’t treat you and your guests like an ATM with wheels!
UPDATE MARCH 6, 2025: My email sent earlier today and their lame and unprofessionally public reply here:
Att: The Owner & Management of 888 S Hope DTLA
I’m following up on your public response to my review. Let’s cut through the corporate fluff — your towing partner, Metro Towing Inc., carried out an absolutely predatory and unjustified tow while I was briefly stopped at 888 S Hope for less than 5 minutes in the early evening on March 4, 2025.
My vehicle’s hazard lights were on, which is a clear signal that the car might be experiencing mechanical issues — and in my case, it was. I was dealing with a battery problem, and after stopping, I was unable to restart the car on my own. Instead of any reasonable accommodation for a temporarily disabled vehicle, your towing partner swooped in and towed my car, without cause or justification.
Because of this unethical setup between your building and Metro Towing, I was forced to pay $514.80 that same night just to recover my vehicle. On top of the money, I wasted valuable time and had to deal with unnecessary stress — all because of your building’s shady policies and predatory towing practices.
What makes this even more outrageous is the fact that Metro Towing Inc. is currently red-flagged on Yelp, with a clear notice in red stating the company is temporarily closed and scheduled to reopen in June 2025. Why is your building still partnering with a towing company that has this kind of reputation and is essentially shut down? This raises serious concerns about your management’s standards and whether this entire process is an intentional scam targeting your own residents and their guests.
I am demanding full reimbursement of the $514.80, as well as compensation for my wasted time and the stress caused by this situation. If this is not resolved promptly, I will pursue every avenue available — including filing formal complaints with consumer protection agencies, reporting this predatory behavior to local authorities, and taking legal action against both 888 S Hope and Metro Towing Inc.
This is your chance to show you take responsibility and immediate action.

Read moreWe lived at 888 S Hope for 5 years. We moved in one month after it opened and were very happy for quite some time there. The service, amenities and maintenance were superior. We were so pleased to be the first to have our wedding at the rooftop terrace and lounge.
Throughout our stay, the front desk and maintenance staff were always absolutely fantastic. Helpful, cheerful, competent, we felt many were friends. This makes our experience with rude and incompetent building management all the more confusing.
It started with little things: the grilling stations would be occasionally broken. Then they would be broken for longer and eventually 75% of the time they were broken (Me: The grills are always broken. Management: We didn't break them.). The hot water was unavailable more and more frequently. There were constant water leaks necessitating ripping out walls and air blowers going 24/7 everywhere including in our apartment. A neighbor had to vacate four times so they could fix water damage and replace her floor. The trash chutes were consistently broken, as were the elevators. They put up tacky swap-meet "art" in the lobby. Homeless people started breaking into cars in the garage and sleeping/defecating in them and the building would do nothing. We started having murders because of the drug dealers living in the building.
As to our personal experiences, the unit next to ours had two cats which the resident left alone for several weeks at a time, simply spreading coverings around the apartment and letting the cats urinate and defecate everywhere. The stench in the hallways was so unbearable that we could not invite guests to visit us in our apartment. This went on for almost a year with management (Trestin Coleman) giving us the runaround month after month. Their proposed solution was for us to move into a more expensive unit at our expense. After a while it became clear that management (Trestin Coleman) considered US the problem for complaining about this situation. Note: We have two cats we love and were appalled at the living conditions for the cats trapped in this unsanitary condition as well as how it impacted us.
One day we noticed that the exact same unit three floors above us was being offered for $800 less than what we were paying due to the price-fixing software used by 888. We asked Trestin Coleman about it and we were told we could get that rate only if we moved into that unit. Despite the ridiculous nature of this situation we decided it would pay in the long term to absorb the moving costs. We moved to the exact same unit. Afterwards I noticed in the building app that rent was still being charged for the old unit even as we paid rent for the new unit. I emailed Trestin Coleman a few times notifying him of this problem and each time he either said it would be taken care of or ignored the email. After three months of this going on one day I decided to see if there was an eviction notice on the door of the old unit. Sure enough, there was. If I had not checked that day just out of a hunch we would have been in court defending an eviction and our credit rating would have been ruined. Did Trestin Coleman care or apologize? No. He tried to claim it was our fault for not notifying him of the issue, which of course we had emails showing we had.
We have since visited friends there and were surprised at the cheesy Z-Gallery re-do of the lobby and the Adams Family cabanas at the pool. It's not what it used to be. It's like the entire property is held hostage to management's bad taste. We moved to Beaudry at 7th and Figueroa and are very happy here so far.
So, TL;DR: front desk staff is fabulous, dealing with building management is a...
Read moreI came here recently for tour and I had to said this is probably the nicest new apartment in the price range in DTLA.
The location is very good is basically to most ideal places in DTLA except to little Tokyo or the museum but is basically bus transit right in front of the apartment.
The apartment is 34 stories and is totally brand new.
Pros: Brand new apartment so every thing is new Very few people moved as now so the building is mostly empty so hardly anyone use the gym or pool
Room appliances is high quality and all are whirlpool brand. The fridge is huge even included for studio
Fast touchscreen elevator which put most other apartment elevator ashamed
Own park resort (use the parking structure rooftop ). Lots of seating and trees which is great for joggers
The room windows is skyscraper and some has amazing views with a cost
Room and restroom lighting is automatic
Apartment key is fob and app based
Guest parking available and is the most I had see for DTLA apartment. You will definitely gonna has many friends wanna come to your place because of that alone that save money and finding street parking but apartment gonna enforce timed limited in future.
Great location just block away from Ralph’s and wholefood also closer to many nicer DTLA restaurants not to mention to Staples and LA Live. this location is possible you don’t need a car since there’s a lot of uber and lyft car all the time here.
Amazing rooftop view and clubs Cons: Parking not included $100 a month (not bad but should had included for a new tenant)
Closet for studio are just too small. Even the bigger studio don’t had walk in closet. Not many storage space.
Only one conference room but that’s across from lease office and only seat up to 6
No Amazon Package system available (Most new apt in the area has it which make much easier to get your package without worry getting loss).
No balcony (this is a trade off when having a nice full window view )
City view is premium cost ($200 per month and up for the same unit size)
Overall, if you looking for a new apartment in DTLA then this should be your top of the list. It got many list check and they do had some affordable studios that’s average price for the area but consider this is brand new and offer a lot more nicer amenities than other however trade off with be smaller closet and pay parking.
This is based on my apartment tour and not actual live here which might encounter different problems but as now here what my 2 cents of this place and I had been looking numbers of unit and find this top of the list for the price range.
Basically a high rise apartment in medium apartment price range.
A lot older apartment in DTLA and isn’t much cheaper but has much outdated amenities and old appliances and usually no lease promotion so I really suggest just pay little more for brand new apartment but the trade off usually smaller space...
