I recently visited the Venice Heritage Museum, and really enjoyed it. Their current exhibit, THIS IS SOME PLACE, runs through January 2025, and it's packed with fascinating photos, documents, video and publications. One of my favorite parts was the media room with the VHM Oral History project. Sitting on the bench watching video interviews projected on the wall was an immersive experience that made me feel connected to the city's impressive people and history. These interviews alone are worth the drive. The museum is a little gem. I love that it was it was designed in a style reflecting the aesthetic of big museums, while offering a cozy environment perfect for exploring. During my visit, I was reminded that Venice, CA, was modeled after Venice, Italy. Although the landscape has changed with fewer canals remaining, the charm and history are still very much alive. This vibrant city has always been a haven for creatives, immigrants and activists, celebrating a rich tapestry of artistic and cultural expression. If you’re in the area, check out the Venice Heritage Museum. It’s a cool spot full of interesting stories and a lot to learn.

Stepping into the Venice Heritage Museum feels like stepping into a vibrant, living history. It's more than just a collection of artifacts; it's a heartfelt tribute to the soul of Venice. This museum beautifully preserves and showcases the eclectic and often rebellious history of this iconic beachside community. What struck me most was the museum's dedication to capturing the diverse stories that have shaped Venice. From the vision of Abbot Kinney, its founder, to the counterculture movements, the skateboarding scene, and the artistic expressions that have flourished here, the museum weaves a rich tapestry of Venice's past. It's clear that the museum is a labor of love, created by people who deeply care about preserving the unique character of Venice. If you want to truly understand the heart and rich history of Venice, a visit to the Venice Heritage Museum is an absolute must. It's a place that will leave you feeling inspired and connected to the colorful history of this extraordinary community.

Free parking and admission. 3 room museum with pictures of the history and development of Venice, CA. You learn how it went from a marsh, to a land development, to an alternative lifestyle meca, to the present high cost housing area. I only takes about 20 min to see the whole thing but it was fun.

Insightful - entertaining - educational - three perfect words to describe what a visit to the Venice Heritage Museum means. Venice, while one of many Southern California beach communities, is unique in many ways (canals, muscle beach, music & art forms incubator, etc.) and the VHM captures perfectly what Venice was then and is today. I spent my formative years on the Westside and Venice was a big part of those years. I am thrilled that the VHM provides a glimpse into Venice 100 years ago and today. Here's to it continuing to grow...
