Island Breeze — Local services in Mackinac Island

Scam alert. I ordered "Crossing the Straights" online, a large 30"x60". I ordered it framed for $475. Unframed would have been $200. It came to me without a frame, rolled up in a cardboard tube. I emailed the company twice with no response. I called the store, and the lady said she couldn't help me, and gave me the phone number of James, the owner. I called twice and he didn't pick up, and his mailbox was full so I couldn't leave a message. Finally after the third call, he picked up. I told him the situation, and he immediately knew who I was. He said that it would have been too expensive for him to ship it framed, and that he sent it unframed because he knew I'd like it. When I asked how he can make it right, he said he could send me a check for $100, maybe $150 to put towards a frame, and that he would be losing money by doing that for me. I told him the math doesn't make sense because he sent me a product listed $275 less than what I paid. He insisted that he was right because it would have cost him so much to send it framed. At this point, I was very weirded out by the situation, so I asked if I could just return the item and get my money back, and he said they wouldn't allow that. When I indicated that he shouldn't have taken my money and sent me something worth hundreds of dollars less, he told me to not get mad. Finally he agreed to mail me a check for $260. I have yet to see if the owner will follow through. Buyer beware, James supposedly owns other stores...
