POSITIVES: The luau is in a very nice setting in the open air and on a carpet of manicured grass. The "natural" stage on a grassy knoll with the ocean and sunset in the background is an excellent capitalization on the best features of the locale. Private seating was a desired and welcomed feature for us. The first course of food was exceptionally tasty - all of it! PLUS/MINUS: The musicians did bring a fun play-list and some talented guitar licks, but the vocals were often pitchy and off-key as they sat stoically on their stools exerting no energy and showing no engagement with the audience. The servers were adequately present but a bit robotic and not very professional (could not fulfill such simple requests as bringing a soda that was not mostly water - and then showing a 180-degree change in personality by giving a cold shoulder after such requests were politely made.) The second course of food was unimpressive and uncommonly dry - all of it! Only the fish (Mahi Mahi) had nice flavor but was still drier than it should have been. NEGATIVES: Contrary to some reviews found online there was very little to set this luau apart from the multitudes of others available on the islands, except its exorbitant price (I have been to dozens over our many years of visits). There was nothing exceptional about the food or service. The show was painfully boring and offensive at times - its story line and number selections were flat, the hostess' delivery was rote, the performers were mostly void of energy and excitement, and the inclusion of political-leaning remarks while re-telling a story of historical offenses unnecessarily evokes discomfort during what is intended to be a happy viewing. SUMMARY: Overall, this luau is "meh" at best and definitely not worth the extremely high price. I would not recommend for anyone to pay to visit this production,...
Read moreThe Feast at Mokapu at the Andaz Maui offers a truly stunning setting—easily one of the most beautiful luaus on the island when it comes to ambiance. The sunset views are breathtaking, and the performances were top-notch. Every dancer and the narrator brought cultural depth and energy to the stage, creating a show that was both educational and thoroughly entertaining.
However, the overall experience didn’t quite live up to the hefty price tag. Unfortunately, the food was a major letdown—it simply wasn’t fresh or flavorful, which was surprising given the venue and cost. The desserts, in particular, felt like an afterthought: tiny portions that tasted more like something from a convenience store than a luxury resort experience.
Service was another disappointment. Our server, Ashley, wasn’t attentive or friendly, and even forgot to bring a drink we had ordered. It felt like guests at our table were an afterthought, which detracted from the overall experience.
While the open bar may help justify the $300 per person price for some, it’s hard to recommend for non-drinkers or anyone expecting a culinary experience to match the setting. For the cost, we expected much more in terms of hospitality and food quality. The performances alone were wonderful, but everything else felt overpriced and...
Read moreWonderful event with excellent staff, entertainment, and food! You first get a necklace made out of tiny shells. Very cool and well made! You're also treated immediately to a choice of alchoholic or virgin lemonade immediately. Before the show you can get "tattoos" and professional pictures. The "stage" is an elevated piece of ground and easy for everyone to see (sat second to last table out, saw entire show with no problems). Starters came out in bento boxes, main courses on plates, and dessert on plates. Delicious food and a good serving of all the food. Came hungry and could barely finish dessert. Show was educational and spectacular, all done in front of a beautiful view of the sunset. Endless drinks. Did not have any alcoholic beverages but the mocktails were very good. Loved the lemonade, virgin pina colada, and the hawaiian root-beer. Valet parking only but did not have to pay. Quite a few stairs to walk to get to the location so it can be difficult / longer to get there if stairs are hard for you. Suggest getting there at least 15 minutes early just to get seated, drinks, and activities before the show. Come ready to make noise and clap for the show. Don't be the boring...
