Official Art Deco Gift Shop — Local services in Miami Beach

Extremely disappointing customer service experience.

My sister and I, both longtime residents of Miami Beach, stopped by this store out of curiosity—it was our first time visiting. At first, everything seemed fine. We were greeted at the door and asked if we needed assistance, which we appreciated. However, what followed left us shocked and honestly offended.

This complaint is specifically about one employee—a fake blonde, older Caucasian woman, likely in her late 50s or early 60s. While she initially came across as polite, her behavior at checkout was incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful.

When we approached the register, no one was there to assist us. Eventually, this employee walked over while on a personal phone call. Not only did she remain on the call throughout the entire checkout process, but she also made it clear through her attitude and body language that we were inconveniencing her.

We were making separate purchases, and she visibly rolled her eyes and sighed, clearly annoyed that we weren’t checking out together. When the receipt printed for my sister, she instinctively reached to grab it, only to have the employee snatch it from her hand and say, “No no, that’s ours, don’t touch our stuff,” in an unnecessarily harsh and condescending tone.

It wasn’t just what she said—it was how she said it. Completely inappropriate, especially considering she was still talking on the phone during the interaction.

To make matters worse, as she scanned my purchase (a toy for my cat), she made a degrading comment about both our items—to the person on the other end of the phone. She mocked what we were buying, which was not only rude but incredibly unprofessional. After seeing our expressions, she offered a weak “sorry,” but the damage was done.

This is not how residents or tourists should be treated in our city. Miami Beach is known for its vibrant, welcoming culture, and it’s disappointing when one person’s poor attitude reflects so badly on our community. Encounters like this are exactly why some people don’t respect locals—because some locals forget how to treat others with basic courtesy.

She may have had a bad day, but that’s no excuse for being unkind, dismissive, and downright rude to customers. I hope management addresses this, because people deserve better—whether they’re from here or...

Loved the Art Deco Walk. But, the best stop for sure was the Offical Art Deco Gift Shop!! Not only did it have the most incredible, unique and funky stuff that made perfect for gifts for my family, but Iris was wonderful enough to give us a private tour and helped me find perfect items for everyone.

I thought I was completely out of luck with all of the same Surf Style shops on every corner, but finding this gem saved me from showing up with the same cheesy suveniours as everyone else. I now have thoughful and one of a kind gifts that will help us and our family remember this trip to Miami forever!

Please never change this place! It should stay funky and fun!! A literal oasis for all things actually art deco!
