Just stayed at Sobro guest house for the 3rd time. NEVER AGAIN. New management took over recently (Stay Alfred), and it shows. Let's start with our arrival. Half the parking lot had been fenced off and the concrete had been removed so only 10 spots for a 20+ unit facility. No one told us about that prior to our check in. No maid service except the day you check out. You have to be lucky enough to catch one of the housekeeping staff if you want more toilet paper. Gone are the fancy soaps, refills on coffee or tea even though they advertise as a fully stocked kitchen. We were told to wash our own towels. The cute record players and records are gone as is some of the wall art. They did leave a bare nail in the wall. The dishwasher latch was broken as was one of the cabinet doors. The staff was too lazy to screw the cabinet back on even though the screw was sitting inside the cabinet. The unit was dirty and tired looking and sorely in need of a fresh coat of paint. We found out by accident that the door does not automatically lock behind you like every other hotel in America. You have to enter a code to get into the building and another code to get into your unit. One day we were leaving and shut the door. We needed to go right back in and pushed on the door and it opened. We had been there 2 days and did not know that our door was not locked. That info should have been included with our check in information. We called about that and after sitting on hold for 45 minutes, we were told that this place is like "your home in the city". REALLY?? Had to take our own trash out to a dumpster on the side of the building. Floors in the unit were filthy as was evidenced by the bottoms of my socks being black. The remote for one of the televisions did not work until we replaced the batteries . So many of these things should have been part of a check list that is used when readying the unit for the next guest. Washing my own towels and taking out the trash is not a big deal but we should be told that there has been this change up front ,and really, for the amount of money we spent--maid service SHOULD be included. Not really surprised since Sobro is now being run by Stay Alfred . I have stayed at another Stay Alfred property in Nashville and had multiple problems there too. Will do my best to not stay at a Stay Alfred property in Nashville or...
Read moreWe have stayed here many times prior to Stay Alfred taking over. We were just here in November 2018. At that time, it was 5 stars. Can’t say that anymore. It still deserves 3 stars for location. Unfortunately, that’s it. We checked in yesterday and check in was fine. I had asked for a room up as little flights of stairs as possible. Of course, they put us at the top. We lugged all our luggage etc up to the room. That was just the beginning of problems.
Upon entering the room, we discovered all the little touches that made this place so homey were gone. We read the little pamphlet that said there was no longer daily cleaning. It said if you need towels, the guest needed to wash them. Ok that would have been fine had there been more than 2 bath towels. Well, that’s enough for 1 or 2 people, but what if you have more people than that?? Also, they put cheap drip coffee makers in. Why not just put a Keurig? Not to mention, they only left 1 pack of coffee. Also dirty dishes in dishwasher. This was not starting out well.
I called Stay Alfred and he said we could move to a unit a floor lower which I had asked for in the first place. We were not going to repack and move. He told us to go to the other unit and grab more towels and coffee. That unit only had 2 towels as well. I guess you need to bring your own towels now.
Onto the interior. The glass shower doors don’t work. One is swinging and the other barely moves. The paint is marred and peeling in the bathroom. My daughter got stuck in the bathroom as the door doesn’t fit properly and I had to help get her out. The floors haven’t been cleaned and I feel like we are walking on sand.
Getting a/c in the bedroom is quite the feat. The only thing they kept from the original is a really old fan. Doesn’t work so well.
No dresser in bedroom. Living out of suitcases. Dryer works intermittently.
Overall, very sad to see what’s becoming of a once wonderful place. Only gave 3 stars because of location and there is a kitchen.
May have to find a new place in Nashville Show less Date of...
Read moreGreat little place to stay for an overnight visit to Nashville! It is within walking distance to Broadway and there are several local restaurants and coffee shops. Me and my husband were there for a show at the Ryman. The free parking was fantastic, and we walked everywhere with no need to Uber. We stayed on the 3rd Floor. I had already read reviews and knew that there was no elevator, but that could be a deal breaker for some people. SoBro Guest House is nothing fancy, but is simply furnished and seemed to have more than we needed for one night's stay, including a full kitchen. There is no place to "check in", so don't expect to see an actual person. All door codes and instructions for checking in/out were sent efficiently through email and text. The unit was clean and the bed was comfortable. There was an electric wall unit for heat/air. This is an old building that has been renovated with a simple modern style. I much preferred staying here than a classic "chain hotel". The price was better and we were so close to all the higher priced hotels that cost WAY more. Some people's reviews complained about noise and thin walls, but our unit was quiet the whole time! We were there on a Thursday night, not a weekend, but I'm sure the noise depends on the behavior of other guest around you. And the water pressure in the shower was amazing!!! Overall, I would stay at SoBro Guest House again. Also, I would recommend The Farmhouse for dinner. It's close, the food was amazing and the atmosphere was relaxed. We had a late breakfast at Corner Bakery, which was also a great choice. Good coffee and simple options, and NO WAITING. Can't wait to visit Nashville again soon! Thanks SoBro Guest House for...
