We stayed at this hotel while visiting the Stadium Tour concert this week. I do want to say that the hotel was very clean and attractive inside, and the rooms were the same. However, the biggest issue we experienced was issues with valet parking. I have never in my life visited any hotel, venue, restaurant, etc. in which valet service was REQUIRED and not optional (and I've stayed in much nicer hotels as this one in much nicer and less sketchy areas). My family and I were completely baffled at the fact that valet parking was required, as my mother is handicapped and, when we pulled into the parking deck of the hotel, we parked in a handicap parking spot (with her handicap tag) that was almost directly beside the side entrance door. However, when we were walking into the hotel, we were confronted by a valet worker stating that we must hand over our keys because we were not allowed to park there. This did not make sense to us as we parked in a handicap spot, which my mother needed due to her limited mobility. Not to mention the valet cost of $40 was also required and was automatically added to our room cost BEFORE WE EVEN GOT THERE! We were taken aback, but my father handed the keys to the valet worker to "move" the car. We stated to him that the care NEEDED to remain in that spot as we were going in only briefly to check in, drop some things into our room, and come back to our car in which we would be driving to the concert. It took us less than 15 minutes to get checked in, go to our room, and come back down to the parking deck. By that time, the valet worker had already moved our car, with our request that it remain there for the 15 minutes we needed it to, but it was not where we left it. And, instead of the valet worker going to retrieve the car for us to drive to the concert, he simply handed my father, who is also physically disabled in some ways, he keys and instructed him that the elevator was up the ramp and that he would need to go to the top floor to get the car himself. We were absolutely floored by this. I just don't understand it. First, we are forced to pay a valet fee we did not want to pay for nor did we require as we had already located a very accessible handicap spot, and second, when we asked for them to bring down the car for us to go to the concert, the valet worker reported he was "too busy right now" and that we would "just have to get it [ourselves]." So my father, who is unable to walk strenuous distances (like up a full ramp to an elevator to go to the top floor) had to go and retrieve the car for us. When we arrived back and parked in a handicap accessible spot, the valet services were "closed," so my father kept our car keys and refused to have them be given to the valet workers to be locked up. We were told the valet services didn't "open" until the next morning, so what would we have done if we had to leave early due to an emergency and we did not have access to our keys? Upon checking out, we were told that it was "illegal" for us to do that (meaning parking in a handicap spot with a handicap tag). We then noticed that the other vehicles parked in the handicap spots beside ours were ones placed there by valet services which did NOT have handicap tags. This was completely unacceptable. So, the only "valet" we received was them moving our car from a handicap spot to a near inaccessible spot for my father to have to go to in order to get the car for us to leave the next morning. And, then, we were still forced to pay the extra $40 for the valet services we didn't even receive. These staff were extremely rude, uncaring, dismissing, and lazy as lazy can get. Talk about a "nice" hotel. Will NOT be back here and I do not recommend anyone else stay...
Read moreWe stayed here over the 4th of July, checking in on the 2nd and leaving the 6th.
Let's start with valet parking. When we arrived, it took us 47 minutes to get our vehicle parked-- the wait to get into the parking garage was that long. When valet finally approached us, they didn't help with a single thing. No opening of doors, helping load luggage onto a luggage cart, etc. Remember, you're paying $40/ night for this service, which never once appeared to actually be a service of any kind. More on that later.
We ended up taking 2 trips to get all of our belongings inside because there was not an available luggage cart.
Our hotel room had an odor of musty, wet carpet. The bathroom had mold on the shower curtain as well as other general dirtiness in the bathroom. Fortunately, housekeeping was able to clean most of that for us upon request. I purchased a room spray to use while we where there which helped mask some of the odor. We tried to be out of the room as much as possible because of this. It was just one of those smells that was very difficult to sit in. The hotel carpet is in need of replacing. It's stretched, bulging and worn everywhere you look.
Ice machines are turned off, I'd guess because of the amount of noise they make for neighboring hotel rooms. Can't say I blame those people for turning them off. Of course, this made the hunt for ice time consuming. You either had to turn it back on, wait and hope that it wasn't shut off before you returned, or ride the elevator and hope you guessed right when picking another ice machine to visit.
The WIFI did not work during our entire stay. While you are traveling, and in an unknown city, you do a lot of looking things up-- this became a challenge. My husband was not able to utilize his work computer because he didn't have an internet source.
The first night we stayed, there was some type of altercation or argument that occurred right outside our door--or at least very close to it. It woke our whole family up and went on for quite some time. The fire station close by is definitely noticeable but I didn't feel as though it disrupted the evenings on most occasions.
There was never an area that we found to be able to refill a water bottle, like some hotels will have by the front desk. We just ended up purchasing water which was fine but not very eco-friendly.
On tuesday, valet was unable to locate our vehicle keys and asked us to come take a look in "the box" and see if we could find them. Once we locate them, they allowed us to retrieve our own vehicle. How kind of them! Again, $40/ night people.
The hotel pool deck was nice, with ample seating for everyone. The pool itself could have probably been cleaned a little better, towards the end of our stay there was a lot of gunk floating along. We were able to watch the fireworks from here which the kids really enjoyed.
The next day, when we checked out, valet again didn't offer to gather our vehicle. Instead, the gentleman working at the counter, who identified himself as Chad, was heavily inconvenienced by our presence and had to put his personal phone call, which was on speaker phone when we arrived, on hold to get us our keys. It was very obvious that he was not interested in helping us in any way.
Overall, if you are someone who enjoys a clean, fresh smelling, friendly interaction, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for comfort or any type of luxury, this is also not the place for you. I would highly recommend the hotel next door.
We will most definitely NOT visit this hotel again and would not recommend it to anyone traveling...
Read moreThis was a very difficult review to write because of one extremely negative interaction, and I want to be fair to the hotel as a whole. Party of 5 - two rooms booked for 8 nights, one for wife and myself the second for daughter and grandchildren. Arrived late Friday evening and Joshua (nice guy) at reception apologised that adjacent rooms were not available, and our rooms were on different floors. However, he said if we spoke to reception on Saturday it would be sorted as a large number of change overs were due. My daughter spoke to Nia the reception supervisor the following day, and after quite some argument with Nia was allocated a room on our floor, but adjacent to the housekeeping store and nowhere near our room. My daughter returned to reception to explain that the move did not meet her needs and was told rather rudely by Nia that she wouldn't do anything more as it would "mess up her room allocations". I then went to reception to intervene. I pointed out to Nia that I was paying nearly $5000 for this hotel stay, and that if my daughter was unhappy, then I was unhappy. With what can only be called ill-grace she reluctantly allocated my daughter a room almost adjacent to ours. No apology, frowning countenance and poor manners marked Nia's approach to customer service. It also rather undermines Hilton's current "travelling with kids- adjoining rooms" adverts. Nia and Hilton need to understand that a negative experience like that described above, then triggers me to become very critical of other aspects that in other circumstances I may have let slide. E.g. Leaking taps in bathroom, complained - nothing happened. Shower sealant hanging down - see pic. 85 cent bottle of water in room for $3 - you must be joking .see pic Main door is on scruffy side street with a number of homeless hanging around - I was approached 4 times for money/cigarettes within 2 hours of arrival. No kerbside appeal when approaching the main door of hotel. Dead and wilting plants and dog poo on the main entrance steps for the week of our stay, external appearance appears uncared for- see pics. Ashtray at entrance to Hoppy Bird restaurant knocked over and a small mountain of cigarette butt's sat at entrance for a week. Vagrants sleeping on wooden benches at Hoppy bird entrance. Room serviced every second day is not good. I am on holiday spending nearly $5000 dollars on hotel and don't expect to make my own bed. Room facilities very limited - just coffee machine, no kettle Having said all that. Hoppy bird food was good and service pleasant. ROB the barman in the lobby bar was great - as indeed we're most of staff. Grandchildren loved the pool. Over to you Hilton to reply - and please no auto-bot response saying thank you we are trying to improve services- that type of response...
