I tried! I'll preface all of this with Mia was extremely nice & Yais was to during my appointment, but nice isn't enough. I booked a model appointment with Mia, which was listed as being with guidance of a more experienced stylist. When I booked the appointment I requested to consult with the salon to make sure this was the right type of appointment for me. No one reached out so I took the chance. I came in with babylights and tip out. I told Mia that I hoped to incorporate some of my more natural hair color lower down on my hair where it had gotten lightened by repeated coloring and to bring up some of the babylighted coloring to my root which had grown out. What happened was not at all what I asked for though it seemed like what I asked for was possible and going to happen. Instead most of my hair came out the color of my original highlights with some of my root untouched. Additionally, at the beginning of the appointment I told Mia that I liked my cut and just wanted to go an inch shorter. She did that, but then without asking or telling me cut a huge diagonal line at the front of my hair. I was horrified! Yais (the owner) stepped in at this point, which I really appreciated, but the solutions, while better than what Mia did, did not correct for the mistake which easily could have and SHOULD have been avoided. The solution we pursued was to cut my hair ANOTHER INCH, which I did not want to try to mitigate some of the huge diagonal line Mia cut at the front of my hair. It looks better than what Mia did but is NOT what I wanted and I still DO NOT LIKE IT. I was willing to accept that this is what it is. Yais also helped to try to correct the color issue, but while it was good damage control, it didn't fix the huge discrepancy between what I asked for and what I got. I called a few hours after I left the salon to convey that I was not happy with the color and Yais was initially really receptive and tried to help me find a solution and booked me an appointment with another stylist. After doing this, I let her know that Mia had cut the diagonal in my hair without asking me or direction from me to do so. After this Yais told me she was going to CHARGE me for additional corrections, which does not seem right at all to me. I hardly trust them after this experience to try to fix the problem without additional costs. I told Yais this and she went on a loop about how 1) I should have known exactly what balayage was before booking the appointment and that 2) I should have known that it would lighten rather than get me to a color a little closer to my natural color (even though I was never told that by Mia even after I directly asked for it at the beginning of the appointment 3) that I can't expect results that I would like from a model appointment and that I SHOULD have known that as well, and finally 4) that Mia's choice of golden toner was defensible because I asked for something "natural" even though what I asked for was explicitly something less yellow than I had and closer to my natural hair color (which is dirty blonde NOT yellow). After this, she did offer to refund the hair cut which messed up my hair, but this isn't enough to undo the damage that the horrible hair cut has caused & doesn't account for the color!
So I took a chance on this studio and new stylist and ended up with the opposite of what I wanted in my color and cut, and my only options now are to pay this salon more money and hope a) I get what I want and b) my hair isn't further damaged, or to spend more money on my hair at another salon.
My hair looked more like what I wanted it to before I came in than after I left. It's not at all what I asked for. I think that Balayage Studio should be responsible to it's clients to inform them of what their options are upfront, ask what they want and be sure to understand that before doing anything, and ask for consent before choosing and implementing a hair cut & color. If a stylist can't do that they shouldn't be charging for hair.
I paid to have my hair damaged both in cut and color today. SO...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf I could give The Balayage Studio more than 5 stars, I would! Yais is an expert at what she does. She tailors each dimensional balayage to the client, artfully choosing colors and cuts that bring out the best in every individual client. I've never felt better about my hair. Not only are the services superb, but the stylists are such lovely people and the studio itself is extremely charming. Plus, after a complementary coffee from the local coffee shop next door, you're greeted by the cutest little dog. The Balayage Studio is a true gem; I always leave feeling like the best, most confident version of myself. I now live in NYC, but refuse to find another stylist and will keep coming back to the Balayage...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been going to Yais for nearly 6 years now and just had my hair done by her junior stylist Mia. Iām elated to say that she was absolutely fantastic! She took her time and carefully planned how she wanted each section of my hair to look. She also consulted fellow stylists throughout the process which was super appreciated. Mia is sweet and gentle, and gave me a killer foiliage (I had some residual box dye and she was able to work with it seamlessly!) Iāve always appreciated how The Balayage Studio caters to ethnic hair and can trust them with any of my hair needs. Every stylist is super talented and Iām very happy with my new cut and color. Thanks...
