I am genuinely confused by the other reviews here raving about the pizza when it's easily the worst I've had in Seattle. Checked the place out after seeing that it maintained perfect 5-star reviews in the weeks since it opened. Got a couple pizza slices with rather traditional toppings and...they weren't that great. Not terrible, but closer to "bowling alley pizza" than the "life changing pizza" promised on a nearby sign. The crust is fantastic, no complaints there, but the toppings themselves are muddled. Aaron and Travis proudly talked about how they use "top-shelf" ingredients and I don't doubt that but the ingredients selected just don't work well on a pizza. The toppings are greasier than you'd expect and when that grease combines with the nearly flavorless cheese it becomes an otherworldly goop.
I kept seeing more positive reviews mentioning the pizza so I thought my first trip might've been a fluke. Some of the reviews came from active profiles so it's not like they're all fake, I think. I came again and tried a sweetza, since I figured with that crust and the listed toppings it would be hard to mess up. I was again disappointed. My first bites were ok but something was off, and to my growing horror I discovered that staring back at me in the box was the same greasy goop cheese from before, now mixed with nutella. I never would've imagined that food could cause cosmic horror. It was at this point I understood why the signs outside promised life-changing pizza: I would never be able to look at a regular pizza pie again without a flashback to the cursed taste and mouthfeel of nutella cheese. I'm so confused why my experiences have been dramatically different from other reviews. Does everyone else in Belltown have a different idea of what good pizza is? Is this a psyop?
The place itself has a neat interior with a cool speakeasy vibe. Tap system, pinball setup, board games, and space room are all great. It'll probably get better with time. The super friendly owners definitely care about the place and put in the grind, even leaving comments like "I heard that Just The Tap is pretty awesome" on /r/Seattle while still logged into their main account. If you visit, just remember what you're here for: Just The Tap, not...
Read moreI'm upset. Needed to scratch a pinball pinch in an inch and saw the sign for this place in front of my hotel after visiting for a birdcage convention. After a long walk up several hills and several "just the tap" signs, i made it to the dark and seedy alley that allegedly leads to the pizza parlor and not some alley filled with hopefully only dog feces. I was hoping my boyish nose could me to the location via the smell of "life changing pizza" but instead I had to navigate the smelly alley until I found the tunnel that lead here.
Getting inside my date and i made our way to what appeared to be the ordering counter. after several minutes of waiting and wishing we had brought another layer due to the cold and moldy atmosphere inside, an equally cold and moldy employee made their way to the counter to help us. I could barely understand what he was saying between the hiccups and slurred speech but was able to take our order for some beer tokens and slices of cheese pizza slices. was confused that we had to pour our own beers but given the state of the employee we gladly obliged.
After finally finding a working pinballs machine we finished our slices and both agreed they were "good enough". Getting out from our sticky seats we finally decided we had had enough! stopped by the nice bathroom to take my pain medications before leaving. (i was involved in a motorcycle crash 2 months ago)
overall, it was ok. the pizza i filled my date and i up and up. But the service was not okay at all. I was shocked at how the person serving us felt the need to come in and check on us CONSTANTLY. The saving grace of this place is the many dark and quiet corners to take over so your outside the gaze of the sultry eyed server.
Word of advice from my brother who owns several successful bars back in Sioux Falls; spend less on the signs and more on paying better employees! They should unionize to get more hard working union boys in there!...
Read moreI am SO glad we found this place! What an unexpected surprise. The exterior is unassuming but it’s a straight 10/10 delight once you’re indoors. We live just up the street and have been looking for a new local haunt. Came in on a Saturday afternoon, greeted by the owners themselves who are so kind and passionate - you can immediately feel the love and pride and attention to detail in every corner of the (multiple) spaces.
The vibes are immaculate. Saloon speakeasy, meets jazz bar, meets study den, meets trippy fantasy black light space room. We will definitely be coming back to finish our workdays, over pizza and a pint and cannot wait to tell our friends and bring our visiting guests.
I am not a big beer drinker and rarely want to finish a pint, so i LOVED getting to sample lots of new things without having to commit to a whole thing. My husband on the other hand loves beer and liquor, so he enjoyed the self service. They don’t do mixed drinks or cocktails, but he ordered a simple whiskey neat after his pints of choice and it was just right.
They do pizza by the slice and by the pie AND also a full gourmet Brazilian steakhouse menu. We ordered the Beef Picanha Brazil Meal and it was EXCELLENT. Meat was juicy and tender, the sauces were vibrant and a perfect complement.
10/10 would recommend. It’s the antithesis to your classic grungy belltown dive bar, so if you’re looking for a refreshing new take on drinks, eats, and social experiences - Just the Tap is...
