I regret spending any money at Caravana Jewelry. I was enjoying Tlaquepaque immensely before walking into this store. As soon as my sisters and I walked into the store, the woman at the register had her eyes on us. She was chatting with the rest of the customers like every other Tlaquepaque artist had talked to us, friendly, open, and excited to share their art with us. I think this woman said her name was Cosette. At the front of the store, Caravana has these gorgeous dyed ribbons. My sisters and I wanted to purchase one each. The price for the ribbons wasnât listed, so we asked Cosette what the cost was. She told us that they were $14 each, but also mentioned that there was a bucket of âoopsâ ribbons that were $3. These ribbons were too short, sewed improperly, etc. obviously, my sisters and I went to check out the cheaper bucket. There were two beautiful blue ones in the midst of a pile of plain black ones.. We decided to just purchase the two blue âoopsâ ribbons, as my third sister decided she didnât want to pay $14 for a regular ribbon or $3 for a plain black one. My other sister and I were excited about the deal we were getting, for ribbons that looked just as beautiful as the rest. When we reached the counter to pay, Cosette inspected each ribbon carefully. Instead of the friendly chatter the other customers receieved, she regarded us with suspicion. She told us that the ribbons looked perfect and that she was surprised they were in the âoopsâ bin. We agreed, they were gorgeous! She responded by saying âwell I didnât put them in the bucket and weâll leave it at that.â She was essentially alleging that we had lied about them being in the Oops bin to get the cheaper price. As soon as we paid our six dollars, I felt sick to my stomach. My sisters and I left the store and they looked at me in unison and said âshe definitely thought we were stealing.â The fact that she assumed that we were stealing truly hurt my heart, and my sisters as well. As women of color, we wondered if we looked suspicious to her because of our skin tone. Why else would she have been so kind to the other customers, all white, and so immediately suspicious of the three of us? Every other artist at Tlaquepaque looked at my sisters and I, in our early twenties, and knew we wouldnât have the type of money to purchase their art. Nevertheless, they showed us their art, answered our questions, and shared stories about collecting, all with smiles on their face. Cosette absolutely ruined our experience by being suspicious of enthusiastically paying customers. If youâre looking for jewelry there are several other places in Tlaquepaque with stunning jewelry and kind artists who arenât suspicious of...
Read moreVery rude sales lady as I went in yesterday to purchase a ribbon bracelet copper buckle. My best friend purchased two ribbon bracelets for her and I when visiting, and last year I separately purchased a buckle for it. I went in yesterday to purchase a buckle for my friend. The sales lady started out arguing with me about a story the previous sales lady told me about the daughter of store owner (who cares) makes the buckles, and that they never sold the buckles separately. After my boyfriend walked out because she was being so rude, she decided to call and ask, but proceeded to tell the owner, this lady insists that she bought a buckle separately, they canât buy separately right? No, wonât do it. She didnât tell her we had already bought ribbons previously from her store. I just walked out and bought a beautiful malachite stone with a ribbon bracelet from a bead shop in same plaza. The experience was so different with this wonderful sales lady that...
