My partner and I love antique/vintage. Quality things from an age where construction and attention to detail were important. We were on a road trip in Solvang on a weekday and stopped in to this store which is a lighthouse in a storm when it comes to a break from the more kitschy tourist stores in little Solvang (not that those stores don't have their place here). We had to make 2 passes to even see most of what was in here - and there is NO junk in this store. Very high quality, gorgeous pieces were seen. I'm very glad we made our 2nd pass because halfway down the aisle on our circle I was looking up at all the lovely things on the wall and I think both he and I said "whoa" outloud (I know I did) to a painting high up. It was a painting of a ship in darker hours. It's something I've always kept my eye out for as I like paintings of ships, but have always been more drawn to those of ships in the night or dusk - not in midday sunlight. It's among the few things I'd add to my collection if I found the right one. I was very drawn to it. Very friendly, assuming the proprietor of the shop talked to us about the painting and told us some of what he knew about it. I never go into a larger purchase of an "impractical" thing (meaning something I can't use), so we left with a card in hand for me to ponder it. We returned the next day after the painting would not leave my mind. Again, the proprietor was there and offered to take it down for a closer look. It was in beautiful shape, and more details came into view, so I purchased the painting. They wrapped it up nicely for the long car drive home. I have been very much enjoying it on my wall. All that to say, this is a lovely store, with lovely people, and when we come back to Solvang, it will be on our...
Read moreI was visiting Solvang and excited to buy something at an antique store, shame on me, but shame on them for not even getting their country right and selling me something for $35 that isn't even worth $2. I was sold according to the sticker, a set of 12 Chinese coins all stuck on a stick, at checkout it printed Japanese Chinese coins on the invoice, and I asked if that meant world war two era when Japan was occupying other countries. They said they couldn't tell me the exact age of the coins, but they were chinese. I come home, pull them off the stick, and discover these aren't anything used in China, they are Japanese 5 yen coins from the mid 1970s. They still have more sets for sale, so beware, you're not getting anything antique, nor anything they should be charging $35 for. It makes me question the authenticity of all...
Read moreJust wow…this place is pretty much a museum with the most friendly staff ever! Shoutout to Susan - my friend and I visited Solvang a few weeks ago now with no intention of buying anything, which Susan knew but still took the time to explain the history behind the music boxes and jewellery on display. The knowledge she had about the mechanical devices from each era was staggering, and she made us feel right at home for a couple of city girls visiting for the day. We thank you so much for your hospitality Susan! And to the owners, what a lovely collection of items you have. We will be back to visit for sure and next time I’m taking a price of history home with me....
