Came in looking for a tiny fly rod that my 5 year old could learn to fish with. The owner offered my son a chocolate coin they keep on the counter that he noticed. I mentioned it was his birthday so he could have the treat and went to the back where owner pointed out I might find something. We looked and didn’t find anything that would work and headed out. The guy at the counter mentioned another shop that might have what we were looking for. Then on the sidewalk outside the owner greeted us and presented my son with a tiny 5’6” fly rod he said had been sitting in his truck for a couple years. Bought a couple flies and some worms after asking about guided charters (they were booked, we were asking about same-day). The proprietor (I believe it was Bob Jacklin) gave us great advice for boat rental and a nearby lake. He let the each of the kids pick out a free fly! We will be teaching our kids to fly fish and then coming back to West Yellowstone and Jacklin's for lessons and guiding. The other guy working that day was from Minnesota and exhibited the classic Midwest friendliness (even though we still hate the Vikings, Go Pack!) ...

My nephew by marriage and I took a fly fishing float down the Maddison the last week of July 2017. The trip was coordinated by Elk Lake Camp Resort (another local gem) and we found Bob and his guide (29 years of experience) Mark Johnson to be very experienced, knowledgeable, and just all around good guys.
