Writing a review for Sunday, 24/11 12:30 banquet for a 30th.
I have been to blackhide previously at the treasury casino a few times and have had wonderful experiences while dining there.
Today, at the Star Brisbane, it was absolutely disgraceful. We were a party of 13 people and had the banquet at $110 per person, paid in advance. At $110 per head, i would expect adequate amount of food. The entrees were limited but i thought that’s okay, main and sides will be plenty. The mains came out and as stated in the menu (photo attached), alternate drop of wagyu and angus. I was sitting at the end of the table with my husband and we both recieved angus sirloin. That is not an alternate drop. When we told the waiter, she said ‘sorry, the chef cooked more angus sirloin than the wagyu rump’ - and when asked if they could make the rump, she said it would take a long time for it to be cooked so we accepted the sirloin. That was disappointing, if the menu says ‘alternate’ then it should have been ‘alternate’ or you could have informed us in advance about this. The most disgraceful part of this banquet was the scarcity of the side dishes. Only 3 bowls of chips, 3 bowls of greek salad and 2 slices of pumpkin on 3 tiny dishes each for 13 people. Look at photos for reference.
Honestly, Black Hide, do you think thats enough side dishes for a banquet? The worst pare of it all, is NO ONE came in to check in whether if everything was okay which is standard at restaurants because they (staff) knew the food wasn’t enough and were hiding and congregating at the kitchen there.
I told the waitress that there wasnt enough side dishes to pass along for 13 people and to pass on my feedback to the manager. Did the manager get back to me about this? No. Of course, because it had been paid upfront they did not care at all.
I made it clear that I would make a review about this and will email Black Hide as I did not want to cause a commotion at a 30th.
I left Black Hide starving and very upset. This has to be worst dining experience i have had in Brisbane considering Black Hide was a restaurant I have recommended plenty of times to my friends.
Black Hide, here is some constructive feedback. Do not offer Banquet because you do not know how to. Everyone should be allowed to order off the menu. You had so many staff members and kitchen staff to be able to cater but like i said all congregating near the kitchen.
If you want great steak and service, head over to:
SK Steak and Oyster at James St The 203 at Fortitude Valley Walter’s Steakhouse and Wine Bar in Brisbane City
You’ll get great food and a great experience.
And no, Black Hide an apology or a gift voucher wont be enough for me to come back.
I will be sharing this review...

TLDR: 1 hour wait between entrees and mains/sides. One main order was wrong. Lobster Linguini was a disaster. Waiters kept pushing drinks when we just wanted food. Kmart lights in a high-end venue. We don’t recommend.
LONG VERSION: We recently dined at Black Hide for a work dinner to celebrate a huge milestone, and unfortunately, we cannot recommend this restaurant. While the view from our outdoor seating was lovely and the entrees (particularly the tuna tataki, scallops, and steak tartare) were absolutely delicious, the rest of the experience fell flat.
The main dishes and sides took an astonishing hour to arrive after we finished our entrees. By the time the food finally came, we were tired, frustrated, and honestly ready to leave. While the mashed potatoes and chips were decent, the Lobster Linguini ($68) was a disaster. It was overly salty, contained strange crunchy bits that felt out of place, and was presented in what I can only describe as a long, sloppy pasta turd. I’ve had better pasta from Uber Eats at 3 a.m. for a fraction of the cost. The steaks were just average, and for the steep prices, they were far from worth the long wait.
To make matters worse, one of the steak orders was wrong. My friend had ordered a specific cut, but they were served a more expensive one instead. While the waitress acknowledged the mistake and offered to charge the same price as the originally ordered steak, it was a mistake that shouldn’t have happened in the first place. My friend reluctantly agreed, but the mix-up only added to the dissatisfaction and highlighted the restaurant’s lack of attention to detail.
Although the servers were polite, they continually asked if we wanted more drinks. It felt excessive and unnecessary, especially since all we wanted was our food. By the time the mains arrived, the whole table agreed we’d have been better off grabbing Korean BBQ down the road.
Adding to the underwhelming experience, the ambiance felt cheapened when we found the same exact table touch lights at Kmart, hardly fitting for a venue located in a $3.6 billion development. For a restaurant aiming for high-end dining, this lack of thoughtfulness in decor was surprising.
The massive delay overshadowed any positive aspects of the evening, and the experience left us feeling like we’d wasted our time and money. If you’re looking for a great fine dining experience, with top tier food and efficient service, Black Hide is simply not worth it.

Read moreI wish I could have given a higher rating as the interior fitout is stunning. The steak itself was superb but unfortunately was let down by pretty much every other dish on the table. The truffle croques were cold and soggy.. I wouldn’t have served it to guests at my own house let alone a fine dining restaurant. I ordered chimichurri sauce for my steak and again, should not even be named chimichurri on the menu, as it was literally a bowl of olive oil with the flavour of chimichurri but there was not one leaf visible in the sauce.. I now see from other peoples reviews it looks like they had a more decent looking chimichurri, so maybe we had a different chef the night we went.. but that “sauce” should never have been sent out the way it was. It was extremely disappointing. Those of us who had ordered it ended up sharing the peppercorn sauce others had ordered - which was better but still not great (it was quite watery and lacked flavour, you can get better peppercorn sauce at a pub..) The chips were also very underwhelming, you can find better chips in the frozen aisle of Woolies. They were quite tough/hard as if they had been defrosted, and had no flavour. Our Greek salad had no capers (the menu specifically lists capers) and had to be sent back to add them in. They also set down the steaks in front of the wrong people which was surprising for a restaurant of this calibre. Overall I was really disappointed with the food. What a shame as it’s a stunning restaurant. It would be an even bigger shame if it was just the particular chef on the night because unfortunately I don’t want to chance another bad meal for that price so will not...
