Choose this place for pre-theatre grub and drinks as its only 5 minutes walk from State Theatre. If you’ve never been here it’s easy to miss the opening as Google Maps asked me to cross the road walking up Kent St & i had to backtrack to find it. Saw Kuro as I walked past with that signage hanging in the air. Kahii inscribed just above the door in small cursive font was easy to miss.
Not many tables at the bar level with slightly more placed infront of the lift lobby up the steps. So the cosy corner next to book shelf infront of bar was the best seating for two. But you’ll have to go early, like 5.30pm.
The food comes just under 10 minutes from placing your order (was told wagyu sando takes about 30 minutes). Besides the happy hours menu there is a hefty list of cocktails, wine and booze. The food we ordered tasted really good and was just the right amount. The endless refills of warm water (it was a cold windy evening) was much appreciated.
Highly recommend the wagyu beef tartare (the thinly sliced fried black garlic and artichoke topping complemented the raw beef perfectly). The Shiokombu butter popcorn chicken looked like charcoal balls, but they tasted heavenly. The deep fried oysters were pretty big and you cant talk once you pop one into your mouth. ooooh the tartare sauce was amazing. First time trying jasmine tea with whiskey and I’m sold. It was really easy to down, so smooth and...
Read moreI dined at Kahii a few weeks ago for a Saturday date night and wanted to thank the team for an amazing and special evening.
The menu has the type of dining experience I love - smaller, perfectly portioned plates of food, with an opportunity to indulge in a number of different dishes. As a vegetarian I felt there were a number of options - I had a dish with stracciatella and tomatoes which was fresh and perfect for a warm summer's night. I have been frequently thinking about the gobo chips, as I have never eaten gobo before and it was a delicious snack (and a change from the usual fries or potlnta chips). My dining partner loved his wagyu and potatoes. The desserts were excellent - there was a jasmine one and a pineapple one - neither were overly sweet; both dishes were light and refreshing had interesting (but delicious) flavours and textures.
All the cocktails (Kyoto Slipper was definitely on the list!), as was and white wines that we drank were very good - I wish I could remember specifics, but I may have had a few (and my tolerance isn't great).
Finally, the service was attentive and polite (our Japanese waitress was lovely); I didn't feel rushed or pressured to finish my meal or drinks (which is a pet hate of mine). The space is intimate and the lighting is moody, which was perfect for a special night.
Thank you - I can't wait to...
Read more📍Kahii, Sydney This is such a cozy vibing cafe located in Sydney. It might be one of our favs during our visit.
We ordered: Chicken Katsu Sando $18 (chicken katsu, cabbage, cucumber pickle, egg salad) The bread is soft and the chicken is so crispy but tender! The cabbage combination makes it very refreshing to enjoy and the portion is great for sharing
Green Tea Soba noodles $16 with salmon sashimi +$6 (fennel, apple pickles, avocado, tomato, cauliflower, micro herbs, nori soy vinaigrette) This is a highly recommended dish! When I saw Green Tea, I already wanted to try it. And I did not expect Green tea soba could match so well together.
BLACK SESAME CLOUD - This is the viral coffee drink and I could confirm it is just incredible. The taste is so rich and it is such a unique experience.
COCONUT COLD BREW - another unique experience that you would enjoy and they even explained how to enjoy it.
MATCHA LATTE - Very rich matcha
I would highly recommended this spot and hopefully someday I could visit again for the black...
