We went to the 2nd floor breakfast section at 10:00 and got ye table at 10:20ish.. Food taste is average at this place, service makes it worse than it actually is.
There is no reason to have a long line as when we entered there are a lot of tables available but we waited in the line for 15-20 mins
The place looks stunning and super royal. Truly amazed by the interiors, and totally made it worth the fake wait for the entry..
We ordered after a long wait (which was ok as we were admiring the place) the same waiter took order for most of the tables that were around us. All of us were waiting to receive their orders, we and other tables received part of the order and obviously thinking will be the rest is on its way!! After 30 odd mins of wait, when we and the 2 other tables around us checked with the waiter, he went in the kitchen to check and comes back with the same answer to all the tables “The kitchen forgot to inform that the item is sold out and we have to order something else”. Same story was told to all the tables where we might have ordered different items, later we chose another dish and after sometime the answer was the same.
Had a piece of cake thats pretty tasty and asked for the bill.
The audacity of the waiter to demand for the tip has pricked me (which made me write this review). I openly asked him, how can I give you the tip, first of all, I didn’t get any food or status on my food unless I asked you to check for it. secondly, you are a super busy man walking all around the place and trying to get your attention is a terrible experience. (Is not even super busy day, there are at least 4 tables empty that I could see and on the way out there is a line of people waiting for a table)
So, over all the pastry section is good, the service is bad, the interiors are super instagramable and really worth experiencing. Will I go back to this place, no not for food maybe for the ambience and make some showoff pictures on...
Read moreI can understand why people would want to visit this cafe. Indeed its view of the opera house plus the classy interior design make this cafe worth seeing. But only seeing, not dining because it lacks what makes a great dining experience. Food was ok, in other words, mediocre. Service was poor.
While my friend and I were queuing on the staircase, we were asked if we wanted to have lunch or cake & coffee. We wanted to have lunch, so she directed us to the upper floor. When we were upstairs, we were told by a waiter that the restaurant was fully booked. Since we were directed upstairs without any upfront information from the waitress, we were a bit surprised by his reply, so we just wanted to confirm if no seats would be available. The waiter then continued with a very condescending smile and replied something down the line that, yes the restaurant is fully booked so it means nothing is available, but the restaurant will become available again at 3pm.
He didn’t misguide us, but it was the condescending and snobbish tone he adopted that really makes things uncomfortable. It was also very disappointing that the waitress and the waiter don’t communicate and send customers back and forth all for nothing.
We then proceeded back down to queue for the coffee & cake. Everything else was fine until when we wanted to pay. We signalled the waitress who was standing in front of the queuing line that we wanted to pay. She nodded and I thought she might either come over or call her colleague over in a short while. Instead she just continued standing in front of the line. We waited for about 10 mins before we could finally pay.
Of courses we wanted to pay earlier and go for our next destinations. But also from the perspective of those queuing in line, the long waiting time for us to pay was inflicted upon them as time to wait. In short the staff there didn’t really stand in the customers’ shoes. We are no kings but we also don’t pay to be...
Read moreDuring our recent visit to Vienna, we had the pleasure of dining at Gerstner K. u. K. Hofzuckerbäcker, a charming Austrian restaurant that truly lives up to its prestigious reputation. The moment we stepped in, we were greeted with an atmosphere of elegance and history, perfectly blending traditional Austrian décor with a touch of modern sophistication.
We ordered the rhubarb crumble and apple strudel, and both desserts exceeded our expectations. The rhubarb crumble was an exquisite balance of tartness and sweetness, with a delightful crumbly topping that was simply irresistible. The apple strudel, a classic Viennese treat, was perfection itself – the pastry was flaky and golden, encasing a warm, spiced apple filling that melted in the mouth. Each bite was a testament to the quality and skill that Gerstner’s chefs bring to their craft.
The presentation of the dishes was impeccable, reflecting the restaurant’s high standards. Every detail, from the cleanliness of the environment to the artistry of the plating, was meticulously attended to. It’s clear that Gerstner K. u. K. Hofzuckerbäcker places a strong emphasis on not only the taste but also the visual appeal of their offerings.
In addition to the superb food, the service was outstanding. The staff were attentive and courteous, ensuring that our dining experience was nothing short of delightful. Their knowledge and passion for the culinary traditions of Austria added an enriching layer to our meal.
Overall, Gerstner K. u. K. Hofzuckerbäcker offers a remarkable dining experience that captures the essence of Viennese culture and cuisine. Whether you are a local or a visitor, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone seeking to enjoy high-quality, delicious Austrian desserts in a beautifully maintained and welcoming setting. We left with our hearts and taste buds thoroughly satisfied and look forward to...
