If I could rate value for your money, I would give it a 2/5 stars. The food was good but too expensive for what you’re getting.
Went to get breakfast here on a Sunday. It was so busy and you can tell the place was popular. Everyone was served quickly so you weren’t waiting in line for more than a minute or two.
I ordered a “hangover cure” with a maple latte for myself and a jambon beurre sandwich for my husband. The hangover cure is a croissant sandwich with cheese, chives, bacon and a runny egg. Each sandwich was $12.50. The latte was $6 or $6.50. Somehow with 15% tax I paid $36.22. The price surprised me because at first, I didn’t realize how expensive my sandwich was and I didn’t realize there was an egg in the sandwich. However, I still believe the price of the food was inflated overall.
The jambon beurre was made with fresh bread but it was stiff and cold. Nothing was warmed up or toasted. The ham and cheese was cut thick but also cold. Maybe it’s supposed to be like that and it’s just our fault for expecting something different.
In comparison, the hangover cure was warmed up and toasted. The bacon was the perfect amount of crispy and chewy. The cheese was delicious, I’ve never had anything like it. I had to eat it with a fork and knife however because everything was oozing out. Not a critique, just a beware if you order and think you’re going to be able to walk with it.
The maple latte was really good but small. About the size of a small coffee from McDonalds in Canada. So $6-6.50 for that is a lot.
There was a variety of other pastries there as well that many patrons...
Read moreBefore my visit, I'd heard that in Old Port Montreal, culinary traditions are celebrated and that the chefs pay homage to the region's heritage through innovative interpretations of classic dishes. Hoping to explore these traditions, I visited La Cave à Manger. Nestled in the charming streets of Montreal, this quaint French café beckons with its cozy ambience, delicate pastries, and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee filling the air.
Tempted by the pastries, I ordered a croissant and a pain au chocolate. With a golden, flaky exterior crumbling after each bite, both the dishes seemed to melt in my mouth, leaving behind a subtle sweetness and a lingering satisfaction. With the dark chocolate flavors seeping through the pain au chocolat, every bite was a piece of heaven, with perfectly balanced sweetness. However, what made it even better were the rolls - filled with a rich cream and strong flavors, the Roll Choco Noisette and the Roll Pistachio Blossom were delicate and decadent delights that resulted in a harmonious fusion of flavors that was utterly refreshing and indulgent.
With a delightful variety of luscious pastries, the meal at La Cave à Manger was definitely the best one I had on my trip to Montreal. Many thanks to the owner, Raphael Creton, for inviting me over! Votre passion et votre dévouement transparaissent dans chaque plat que vous préparez!

Read moreLa Cave à Manger is one of those places you might stroll past without realizing what you’re missing—but stepping inside is like uncovering a little slice of culinary delight in the heart of the Old Port. Though the space is small, they’ve packed it full of mouthwatering treats that make every visit a pleasure.
Their selection of baked goods is outstanding, but if you try just one thing, make it their circular stuffed croissants. The combination of flaky, buttery pastry with irresistible fillings is something you simply have to taste to believe. My girlfriend and I have been here a few times, and it never disappoints—each visit leaves us planning our next stop for another bite.
The service is just as impressive as the food. The staff are friendly and attentive, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. And while the prices might be a bit higher than what you’d find in the suburbs, they perfectly match the Old Port’s upscale vibe, with quality that more than justifies the cost.
La Cave à Manger may be easy to overlook at first glance, but once you experience it, you’ll understand why it consistently earns a spot on our...
