Excellent little wine bar. Location is great, not far from old town square but in a slightly less touristy spot in what can only be described as a lovely side street that dead ends! It’s a small and cozy spot, frequented by locals - mostly all were regulars when we were there. There are 2 small seating areas that are both beautiful.
This place itself specializes in Czech wines. They had a great collection but we asked if we could taste a few different wines , much like a tasting. They didn’t have tasting option but put one together for us - Czech wines, 3 white, followed by a Rose, then 2 reds. The white wines were great (GV, Chard, Riesling) the rose was nice too, the reds (Pinot and a Cab)l blend) were average.
But the host Karel (who also owns the place) was exceptional. He made us feel very welcome at his place. He is very knowledgeable about wines in general and about Czech wines in particular. He pulled out and map of the wine regions of Czech Republic and patiently explained which grapes grew where/ what wines were produced in what region. He was very generous with his time despite the place being full and appeared to be available for everyone there. The pour were very generous, to the point where I reminded him a couple of times that we were tasting 6 wines, so perhaps we should get smaller pours!!
We had a fantastic time. Went there after dinner. The place was busy. As we were leaving, a huge local choir singing group walked in - apparently they come in every Thursday night after practice- it was their local bar. What a lovely place.
I would highly recommend a trip here if you want to try some Czech wine or just want to have...
Read more4.5 overall. We two went to have a glass of Czech wine before dinner (in our apartment). Our expectations were exceeded by this atmospheric neighborhood wine bar.
Located on a quiet side street. There were many customers, and other than us they appeared to be from the neighborhood.
The owner listened to our interests and introduced two Bohemian wines. (We had already sampled Moravian wines while in Valtice, but Bohemian wine was new to us).
The first was a nice white. The second was a smashing red.
The walls were adorned with attractive art available for purchase. The artist was in the bar, so we were able to meet with him and exchange contact information for further discussions.
There was a small section that had Ukranian-themed patches and pins on sale; proceeds go to support Ukraine. I purchased a patch for my Ukranian...
Read moreThis is one of those places that are more and more sparse in Old Prague. Even the location has ambiance that is less common due to busyness in all local streets. I am almost apprehensive about adding another sterling review since it may bring more people. Great selection of tasty Czech wines with explanation in spades. Form of Czech style tapas/appetizers, regional provisions. You will hear a lot of Czech. Good sign, great if culture seeker. Reservation is a good idea even mid-week. Will be back. Edit: They do have beer if the group is split on choice beverage. Pils,...
