I booked this based on the great reviews, expecting to taste lots of wine and small plates and maybe even come away with a bottle or two. We were ready to make a nice evening of it (we only had 4 days in Prague).
However this was the most disappointing meal we had in this wonderful city. I have honestly spent more time in a coffee shop. Our server advised 3 large plates between 2 of us would be about right. We ordered as advised and also added an extra appetiser. The plates were pretty much delivered at the same time and maybe he thought we had small appetites or were on a diet but they were very, very small portions. They all tasted nice and I can’t fault that; especially the goat cheese with honey. We were asked what wine we would like and I said a full bodied red. We were poured a glass each but were never asked if we wanted another glass / top up and I had to ask for a top up when our glasses were empty. The wine tasted great but I imagined we would get to try different wines with different plates over the course of a couple of hours. The whole experience from start to finish was only 45 minutes.
The people sitting it at the bar did seem to be getting a more attentive service than us (we were on one of the small tables). We considered if we had misunderstood the 3 plates for 2 people and it should have been 3 plates each? However I wasn’t keen to ask as we just felt it a rather uncomfortable experience.
I know this is out of line with all the other amazing reviews but this was...
Read moreOn our first night in Prague we found the Wine O Clock shop right around the corner from our apartment. From the reviews we knew it would be hard to walk in and get a seat but lucky for us there were two seats at the bar available until 9 pm. A great introduction to the bar. We had a couple of wines each as recommended by the owner and the mezze plata. It was nice watching the food being prepared, it felt like we were in somebodies kitchen. So our time was up and off we went into the Praha evening but not before booking for the following night so that we could sample some more wine and enjoy some more of the tapas menu. Night two.... Back up at the bar at 8pm, wine ordered, three plates ordered and wonderful time was had. Each of the plates was delicious, fresh and tasty. A lovely intimate venue, 3 tables of 2 plus 6 at the bar and 2 spare stools. The selection of wine is quite large and from Italy. There was also some chzek wines as well. If you know your Italian wines it might make it easier to order but if not go with the flow and enjoy the spontaneity of what is being served. It wasn't very expensive either. Highly...
Read moreWe arrived after dinner to enjoy a couple glasses of wine. Our server was very disengaged from the beginning. We selected the wines from the detailed menu. Once he brought our wine, he never checked back in until our glass was done. Every time we responded to him, he repeated our response back as if he didn't understand us even though he spoke perfect English. Not sure if he was surprised by our order or honestly did not understand and this really tarnished our experience here.
Paraphrased example: Server: "What would you like?" Me: "The sweet wine" Server: "The sweet wine? Me: "Yes, the sweet wine..."
Repeat the sequence for ordering the cheeseboard.
30 min into our time there, he leaves the restaurant for about 15 min (presumably for a smoke break). This is understandable, but a heads up would be good to know. Another diner had to ask the other man at the counter to go get the server outside.
I would not recommend coming here. There are other wine shop options nearby that have more room and...
