We took a chance and went in off the street to see if there was a table for two. With some brief negotiation we were offered a table if we could be done in an hour. The offer was gladly accepted and we chose 3 smaller dishes from the menu. These were a trio of herring (with egg and a curry sauce, marinated and pickles), smoked eel and house made liver pate
The herring was served first with firm advice that this was a dish to be eaten by itself. Good advice, they were the best herring dishes I've eaten. The marinated and the pickles herring in particular were both great. Next the smoked eel and the pate were served together. Again the smoked eel was the best I've ever eaten - tender, beautiful smoked flavour and so good it is not served with any dressing or condiments. The pate was coarse in texture but great in flavour. My partner has a German Reisling by the glass and I had an IPA from a small local brewery, both drinks were well matched to the food.
Service was immaculate. Most of the other diners were business people but the ambience of the dining room was very relaxing. We finished our meal with 4 minutes to spare.
Highly recommended but try booking rather than walking in, it won't usually be successful. The restaurant is only...
Read moreUnfortunately, a scammy place. My credit card was charged because the waiter clicked "signature not sighted" on the credit card terminal. After showing him the pending transaction he just sarcastically said "well its pending so it has not charged". The waiter and supervisor kept insisting to charge the amount to another card. Lo and behold few days later both transactions have gotten through. The refund process was also to be frank crazy, and did not follow credit card procedures. Instead of reversing the charge via their POS terminal they had me email their bookkeeper and have the charges sent via bank transfer. Then had the gall to not pay for the bank transfer receiving fees so in effect i was not refunded the full amount that was 100% their fault. Aside from that the food was not worth at all the price. The place was sort of empty and had no danish people, a tourist trap basically. Do...
Read moreA true Danish lunch gem! If you're looking for an authentic smørrebrød experience in Copenhagen, Restaurant Sankt Annæ is hard to beat. The setting is elegant but cozy—white tablecloths, traditional decor, and a calm, classic atmosphere that feels like stepping into old Copenhagen.
The food was absolutely delicious. We tried the shrimp with mayo and lemon, the herring trio, and the chanterelles in cream—each one beautifully presented and full of flavor. Portions are generous, so you might want to share if you're ordering more than one dish per person.
Service was friendly, attentive, and professional. Prices are on the higher side, but the quality of the ingredients and the overall experience make it worth it.
It does get busy at lunchtime, so booking ahead is a good idea. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to try top-tier Danish smørrebrød in a refined yet...
