Disappointing Service, but the Bingsoo Shines Rating: 2 out of 5 stars We visited SSAM Korean Food Bar on a recent evening and were immediately met with a less-than-welcoming experience. Despite the restaurant not being fully booked, as the waiter claimed, we were made to wait outside for 20 minutes before being seated in a corner at the bar. Throughout our meal, we observed numerous empty tables both upstairs and downstairs, raising questions about the initial wait. The food itself was a mixed bag. The highlight was undoubtedly the Mango Cheese Bingsoo, a massive and incredibly delicious dessert. However, the service was incredibly slow, with one waiter seemingly overworked while others appeared unengaged. Our Spicy Korean Fried Chicken took an hour and 30 minutes to arrive, despite other guests who arrived after us already finishing their meals. This excessive wait time was frustrating and almost prompted us to leave. While the Spicy KFC was ultimately enjoyable, the overall experience was marred by the poor service and a very long wait times. The prices seemed high considering the quality of service and the initial wait. Recommendations: Consider booking a table in advance to avoid the potential wait. If you're in a hurry, choose a dish other than the Spicy KFC. Be prepared for slow service and potential delays. The Mango Cheese Bingsoo is a must-try! Overall: SSAM Korean Food Bar offers some tasty dishes, particularly the Bingsoo. However, the poor service and long wait times significantly detract from the dining experience.

I was honestly disappointed. My first surprise was seeing that there were no free banchan (side dishes) and that water was also charged, which usually isn’t. The food portions are small and the set of 3 side dishes was incredibly small and did not include kimchi. If you want kimchi, you have to order it and it’s the same price as the set of 3 side dishes. The setting of the main dish was nice for pictures but there was very little meat and the rice was not properly cooked as it wasn’t possible to grab with chopsticks. When I ordered, I wasn’t asked what level of spiciness I would like and I didn’t feel the dishes were spicy enough for me. Even though I didn’t order kimchi, I saw the table next to me did and it was the smallest portion ever, honestly. Also the atmosphere was good and cozy but the first floor had almost no music as it was so low. What I definitely didn’t like was the decoration, I felt like I was walking into a teenage kpop fan room with posters in the walls. I’m giving it two stars because of three things: the employees and the service was very good, the food is good enough to satisfy a Korean food craving but that’s it and because there was a neon sign in Korean that is nice for pictures Not recommended.

I am a bit skeptical and picky person for rating restaurants. I wanted to rate 3.5 stars for Ssam. I normally don’t really like to go Korean restaurants because I am Korean. I can cook by myself very delicious way. But Ssam was not bad. The servers were extremely polite and good. I had dinner with Danes who already lived in Korea, they know very well what is real Korean food like. They said it was good for having sweet and spicy chicken with some salads, bulgogi bibimbap and Beef gimbap but walnuts and cream cheese gimbap which we ordered a bit later after we had some foods in the picture was too salty so it ruins the taste. My friends I don’t know the reason why buckwheat bibim noodle was made with white noodles. We were quite curious about that but it was tasty so we didn’t ask about that. Anyways it was not bad to go and taste some Koran food in the Ssam. But it’s quiet pricy though. I don’t really know much about Danes opinions but for me it was over priced.

I have mixed feelings about this place. All in all, I like it and will continue to come back. But there's some downsides. The staff seems confused all the time. I don't know why that is, but they seem like they're always running in circles? Friendly for sure, but you're at the same time left "feeling alone" because of the reason mentioned before. The food is good. Not amazing, but good. It seems to have gotten a bit more bland than a few years ago when I was a more regular go'er of this place. I don't know what it is, the food just need some more "kapow"? The taste that's there is good but it's very very subtle. There's a subtle, yet good, kick of spice though. And the food still taste fresh which is a plus. The portion sizes are on the small size, and it seems to have gotten smaller for some reason? It might just be me feeling this. One main dish is enough if you're a small person or not very hungry, but for an average sized hungry person, you can easily devour two main portions or one main with a few sides - and then it suddenly becomes an expensive meal.

Lastly a small suggestion: maybe add a "please wait to be seated" sign at the entrance. I knew to wait because I've been there before, but in the time we were there, we experienced multiple groups of people that just went in and sat at a table and had to be asked to leave because all tables...

I had a high expectation for this restaurant, and it turned out to be a completely disaster. Food, service and everything. What a shame! We came in without reservation and this unfriendly girl worker didnt really welcome us and just told us that they are fully booked. We felt really unwelcomed but we were so hungry that we told her we can eat quick and go. In the end she sat us at the bar in the corner. However during the whole time we sat and ate, the tables upstairs and downstairs didnt become even half full. Also since we were sitting at the bar where we could see whats happening in the kitchen, these 4 workers (none of them were korean) were chatting around the food making and the people who made the food didnt seem like really professional cooks. After we got served food, it was more disappointing. Cold small portion of bibimbab with extremly strange sauce( was it sriracha?) served to us. My boyfriend ordered vegan bibimbap, and we didnt think it deserved that price. And taste was terrible. I wonder why they didnt use gochujang sauce to it. I also had the chicken pieces on the side, those weren't that bad. but yea, still not authentic either. They also charge tap water. There was no service to us. I really wonder why this place has relatively higher ratings. If you want to experience Korean food and experience, please...
