⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dine in | Dinner | Beside Copenhagen Central Station 💰 kr 150–300 per person
As someone with millions of views on Google Maps, I always look for places that don’t just serve great food — they create memorable experiences. Poon Chai, located just beside Copenhagen Central Station, is one of those places. This Thai restaurant doesn’t just offer a meal — it transports you.

🌟 Ambience
The moment you step inside, you’re immersed in a world that feels genuinely Thai. The décor is rich with golden finishes, statues of Thai deities, traditional artwork, and warm lighting that creates a calming, almost spiritual atmosphere. The space feels thoughtfully designed — like a tribute to Thai culture — and gives you the sense that every detail was chosen with care. It’s both elegant and welcoming, and easily one of the most beautiful Thai interiors I’ve seen in Denmark.

🙌 Service
The staff were fantastic — warm, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. They were helpful with recommendations and created a calm, relaxed environment throughout our visit. It’s clear the people here take pride in their service and are genuinely passionate about what they do.

📜 Menu
One of the highlights here is the incredible variety — with over 100 items on the menu, there’s something for everyone. From familiar Thai street food to more unique regional dishes, the menu is a dream for anyone who loves Thai cuisine. Whether you’re vegetarian, a seafood lover, or craving bold meat dishes, this menu offers depth, diversity, and inspiration to come back again and again.

🍽 What We Ordered
To begin, we had: • Thai Iced Tea – Served ice-cold, sweet and creamy, with that classic spiced flavor that makes it such a perfect start. Refreshing and delicious. • Satay Chicken – Tender and flavorful, served with a rich and silky peanut sauce. It wasn’t grilled, but had a lovely texture and taste that made it a great comfort starter. • Prawn Chips – Light, crunchy, and served fresh. A classic Thai snack that went really well with the tea.
For mains: • Tofu Soup – Subtle, clear broth with delicate herbal notes. Light but satisfying — especially good if you want something clean and warming. • Crispy Chilli Pork – Easily the highlight. Crispy, bold, spicy, and full of flavor. Every bite delivered on texture and taste. A must-try dish if you like a bit of heat.

Whether you’re just visiting Copenhagen or a local looking for authentic Thai cuisine, this spot offers great value, beautiful surroundings, and dishes that hit the mark.
I’ll absolutely be returning to explore more of the massive menu.

Read moreI recently visited this restaurant with my friends for dinner, but unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations.
The tom yum soup, a dish known for its vibrant, tangy, and spicy flavors, was shockingly bland. It lacked the essential balance of sourness and spicyness that defines authentic Thai cuisine. Instead, it tasted watered down and uninspired—missing the fragrant notes of lemongrass, kaffir lime, and chili that make tom yum a classic favorite.
Next, I ordered the classic basil chicken with rice, expecting a comforting plate of fragrant, spicy chicken stir-fried with fresh basil leaves. Instead, what arrived was a completely different dish—chicken stir-fried with bamboo shoots. While bamboo shoots can be enjoyable in the right context, this substitution was disappointing and unwelcome. The flavors didn’t resemble the bold and aromatic profile of the Thai basil chicken, the dish felt bland and uninspired.
To make matters worse, the service left a sour taste in our mouths. When we politely requested to split the bill, the staff’s reaction was less than welcoming. Their demeanor shifted noticeably, making us feel uncomfortable for what should be a standard request. Additionally, there was an unexpected extra charge when we opted to pay by card, which was not mentioned beforehand.
Overall, the combination of subpar food and disappointing service made for a less-than-enjoyable dining experience. While I appreciate the challenges of running a restaurant, basic courtesy and authentic preparation go a long way in ensuring customer...
Read moreDefinitely a massive tourist trap and very dishonest pricing. I can’t believe they have the nerve to call themselves a Thai restaurant when the food does not taste Thai at all. It is edible but definitely not anything I would try again. I would have been fine with that (my taste and others may differ). My biggest complaint was the pricing. I paid with my credit card and when they asked if I wanted them to pay in dollar or DK I chose DK and they were going to charge me a 8% transaction fee for the conversion (I don’t know how since I’m paying in the same currency) when I complained she changed the currency to dollars which was a 4% transaction fee in addition to being a terrible conversion rate and pressed the button before I could say anything so the transaction fee went through. This is seriously so sketch and would advise any tourist to refrain from going to this establishment or if you do only bring cash so they...
