Mixed feelings, based on the reviews we visited expecting exceptional food but apart from the foie gras, everything we had was not impressive in the slightest. The food was simply bland and did not have a hint of tasty flavour, even basic salt and pepper. The escargot were in a garlic oil but there was no taste of garlic at all, the mushroom sauce on my entrecote had an artificial taste and did not have a hint of any additional seasoning. My dessert of the day, the Apple crumble tasted at least a day old and was cold, most likely refridgerated for some time. A warm, fresh crumble would have been great.
The most disappointing dish was the baeckoffe. It was unseasoned and tasted like watered down wine. I must say my partner and I were so shocked by the lack of flavour in this dish that we just laughed...generous amounts of salt and pepper made the dish palatable but on the whole it was so bland we even rated it the blandest meal we have ever tasted.
As a visitor to the region, maybe this is the way the local dishes are made but for our tastes, it was an exceptionally underwhelming culinary experience. On the plus side, the ambience of the restaurant, the house Riesling and the Foie Gras were quite wonderful. The entrecote was cooked to perfection but again, neither salted nor peppered. The service personnel were welcoming and attentive and we gave them 5 stars for their efforts. Thank you!
If you do visit this restaurant, I would advise trying other dishes as ours were extremely disappointing, or we were simply unlucky and visited this establishment...
Read moreBased on the great reviews I booked a table here. I'm glad I booked because the restaurant was "complet" (full) when we arrived with our reservation. The atmosphere in the cave/cellar was nice. Service was spotty with our harried server although we were served very quickly. Too fast really for a French restaurant. I was wondering if they served fast just to turn the tables...not sure but I don't think so. Most tables were seated with French folks although a few were seated with us Americans. It's a mixture of locals and tourists so I don't think the restaurant was catering to the "normal" American mentality of get in/out as fast as possible.
Food was average to good; nothing more. We both opted for the Alsatian menu (starter, main, and dessert). We both started with onion tart, my wife had salmon choucrutte while I had chicken in riesling sauce, and tiramisu for dessert. The onion tart was okay. We've had much better. My wife's salmon was very fishy although the choucrutte (sauerkraut) was good. My chicken and spaetzle were both very good as was the tiramisu dessert. Based on the previous reviews I'd expected better although my meal was very good except for the onion tart and cheap at € 20.80 per person for three courses.
With the number of restaurants in Strasbourg, I would not return here. I'm certain there are much better, off-the-beaten-path, places. For convenience near the cathedral it's a decent enough place. But there is better...

Very insulting visit with the restaurant manager making us feel very unwelcome. We are an Asian family and upon arrival he aggressively tapped the computer screen while demanding for our names and reservation.
We made a reservation months in advance but despite this, he seated my family right at the back of the restaurant next to the toilets.
He then gave us a child seat which was broken (bottom buckle was missing) even though there were 2 more child seats along the hallway to the toilets.
Additionally, he sat us at a long rectangular table of 12seats even though we were a family of 4 adults and one child. At this point in time there were at least 4 other tables for 6pax empty. And capacity was roughly 30%. We requested for another table but were rejected as they were “fully reserved”.
Given the treatment we opted to leave the restaurant.
Food might be good (we did not try) but would not recommend this visit if you are an Asian family with Child like...
