La Grande Dame — Restaurant in Strasbourg

As far as Alsace food goes it was ok, nothing special, look for one of the smaller places a little further away from the dome, most of them are quite good. This place jammed way to many tables in and were clearly more interested in volume than quality. The prices on the menu might suggest otherwise. Service was the worst we've experienced in all of our travels, anywhere in the world, period. Wait staff spilled four glasses of champagne on me, and my winter coat. They couldn't, or wouldn't even offer a simple apology. I understand that accidents happen, it was theirs, not mine. After this they simply ignored us as if we weren't there. I spent the next hour trying to dry off before going out into the cold (-2°). They said they would pay for cleaning my coat. Their attitude didn't leave me with any confidence that they'll honour this promise. The manager deserves no credit for his handling of the situation, an extension of the incompetence displayed from start to finish. You have a fantastic choice of places to eat in Strasbourg, I suspect most of them will be better than this, don't waste your time here. 1- The Fries was so delicious. 2- The meat steak was small and completely rare from inside, although no one asked me how i would like to have it! I could hardly chew it! Normally the waiter should ask you, how would you like to have it, medium, rare, medium rare, well done .. etc. 3- The toilette's flushtank was not functioning well and the Soap holder was broken! 4- the place is too narrow on the ground floor and on the first level too. 5- The atmosphere was good and the view on the street is good. 6- Service is good and the Food was served like max 10 mins after i ordered it. 7- the pepper sauce and the home made fries were delicious. 8- overall price for the main dish ( meat steak with pepper sauce + homemade fries) and a glass of Bordeaux red dry wine = 25.5 euros. Which is expensive, if you compare it with the amount of food served and the bad quality of the wine.

So 2 stars i gave only for the perfect location infront of the Catherdral, for the delicious fries and for the good service!

Not sure why your waitresses refused to serve my family tonight. Maybe they didn't want an English speaking group near end of business, or maybe they thought I was being rude when I went inside to ask if we ordered inside or outside. I honestly just didn't know. I saw the conversations inside with the waitress pointing at us and gesturing to the girl taking over for her. My kids saw it as well. They were getting to spend one day in France on our trip and after our visit to your cafe they asked if we could just head back to Germany where the people were nicer. I try not to be petty so I gave you 5 stars even though you chose not to serve us. It doesn't seem like this is normal for your establishment, but the actions definitely didn't represent your country well tonight. I couldn't care less, but you really shouldn't have treated my kids that way. All they wanted was to try...
