Schnelle Quelle — Restaurant in Berlin

I think I was scammed at this place! I’m not sure but it definitely felt like it.

I arrived at this place to get a beer and mind my own business. Then I was approached by a “friendly bartender”, who started making conversation with me and my wife. He said he’s from Zimbabwe, then spoke about his life in Canada, blah blah blah.

At some point he goes “Oh I like you guys, let me get you some free shots. What would you like?”. He shows up later with three shots, and sat down again to speak to us.

At the end of the night, I was charged for the “free shots”, because supposedly this “bartender” did not tell the manager these were free shots. I don’t know if that’s truly what happened or if that was the plan from the beginning. I just know, It was an awkward situation and I just paid for the shots, because I’m not going to argue over a few Euros.

This is easily the worst experience I’ve ever had at a bar in my life, which is a shame because Berlin is a great city. My boyfriend, a guy we met from Utah, and myself (all US citizens) were kicked out of the bar for not being/speaking German. Also maybe for talking too loudly? I speak conversational German and they were extremely rude- they made fun of my accent. Additionally, they hushed us and told us to be quieter because there are apartments nearby. It’s a bar! If people didn’t want to deal with noise, they shouldn’t have chosen to live above several bars near one of the busiest areas of Berlin. I understand that a bar might want to attract or filter a certain crowd, but it’s strange to treat friendly tourists who behave well and look presentable in such a dismissive way. When we arrived, we were told someone would come to our table to take our order, but after 20 minutes, no one had shown up. We eventually went to order ourselves, and it still took another 25 minutes for three simple drinks to arrive.

When it came time to pay, we were overcharged. Only after we pointed it out ourselves were we able to pay the correct amount. The whole experience didn’t feel welcoming or inclusive. A little kindness costs nothing, and it could have completely changed our visit for the better. DO NOT...
