Block 38 cafe cocktail bar — Restaurant in Municipality of Chania

We had a terrible experience. We were a group of 9 and decided to eat there.

15:00 - We arrived and asked if it was possible to merge tables so the whole group could sit together. This was sorted quickly, and we were seated and given the menu. 15:20 - The waiter took our orders: 3x Burgers, 2x Chicken Filets, 2x Chicken Gyros, 1x Pork Gyros, 1x Greek Salad, and 1x Onion Rings. 15:40 - The waiter returned and informed us there was a big problem—they had run out of potatoes and couldn’t serve fries or wedges. We agreed to substitute fries with pita bread, but there was no mention of wedges. 16:20 - After an hour of waiting, the food started arriving. The Chicken Gyros came first; the meat was lukewarm, and the only good thing on the plate was the Greek yoghurt. Five minutes later, the Chicken Filets and Salad were served—these were warmer. A couple of minutes after that, they served the Pork Gyros, which again had lukewarm meat. Interestingly, the portion of Pork Gyros was much larger than the Chicken Gyros. After another 5 minutes, they brought out the 3 Burgers. They had substituted the wedges with crisps.

The waiter serving us was very polite and apologetic, but beyond that, the service was poor. My mum went to pay and asked for a discount, as we felt the substitutions weren’t enough compensation, especially after waiting an hour for such simple food.

After a heated argument between the waiter and someone behind the bar, they agreed to reduce our bill from €120 to €100.

I do not recommend eating here if you have a large group. They should have told us from the beginning that they couldn’t handle...

Hello. Firstly, the fly cocktail should have been remade for free, we still paid for it (keep that in mind, service). Secondly, in a completely empty bar on Friday, a two-meter man could not move the tables for us, the girls had to move chairs themselves, and therefore, 6 people had to sit at the table the size of a bedside table. Thirdly, for all the drinks we had to wait more than 25 minutes, including Aperol, which takes about 2 minutes to be done, and this in a completely empty bar, remember, dear tourists. Fourthly, a completely incompetent waiter, slow. Finally, there were hundreds of people in all others bars in Xania that Friday night, but absolutely none in this exact one on a Friday night in a tourist town. Ordered two burgers with two powerball yogurts. Waited over 40 minutes with not one waitress following up to see if we needed anything. Once we complained, the food came out a second later with the excuse of a 'busy kitchen' (the restaurant had about three other tables taken- it was NOT busy)- you could tell the waiter didn't care what we had to say. The burger meat was charred that we were unable to eat it. Once we were ready to pay, the waitress wanted to still charge us after we complained about the burgers and especially after the food wasn't touched!
