McDonald's — Restaurant in Budapest

We walked in late at night to grab something to eat — there were three of us. After placing our order, we sat at a table to wait. A few minutes later, I went to use the restroom, but a woman sitting at a table right next to it started yelling things at me in a language I didn’t understand and physically blocked my way in. Guessing she was asking for a receipt, I took mine out of my pocket and showed it — she grabbed it from my hand and tore it up! That receipt was important to me!

While I was in the restroom, my partner also tried to go in after me, and when I came out, I saw the same woman shouting at her aggressively and incomprehensibly. We were completely shocked by what was happening.

We went to the counter to report the incident. The young girl working there acted like it was completely normal. When we asked whether that woman was a McDonald’s staff member, she said no and added, in a self-deprecating tone, “This is Hungary.” It actually saddened me that she spoke of her own country with such disappointment — I felt like I cared more about it than she did.

We asked to speak with someone in charge. The manager who came over provided us with a new receipt, but beyond that, all we received was a verbal apology. There’s a person inside this McDonald’s branch who clearly isn’t an employee, yet is allowed to sit there and harass customers with the knowledge — and apparently the permission — of the staff. Horrible experience — worst McDonald’s I’ve ever been to.

I ordered the new Big Tasty, a McChicken, and a caramel sundae with extra caramel — and every single item was a disappointment. The burgers tasted like they were thrown together with no care at all, dry and flavorless, worse than dog food. The Big Tasty was anything but tasty, and the McChicken was cold and stale.

The sundae? I asked for extra caramel and got barely any at all. When I pointed it out, the employee was unhelpful and called the manager. That’s when it really went downhill. The manager was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional, instead of fixing the issue, he argued with me and insisted there was caramel, as if I was making it up.

Very large and beautiful. The issue is with the service. Although they weren’t unkind or rude, they seemed to not care too much about the customers. We waited in “line” only to have people walk in front of us to order, because there’s no clear indication of where the line is. And when people order they stay at the register and wait for their food, which causes confusion and delay. Also, in the middle of taking our order she kept walking away to go to the kitchen to look at other orders. We ordered 6 things and she only put 3 things into the system, so we had to go up and reorder. Their menu is tiny and they don’t have most of the regular McDonald’s basics.
