Sörforrás étterem — Restaurant in Budapest

I visited Sörforrás Restaurant as a member of a large tourist group. It was amazing how much people can be served by this restaurant because the street front is rather small. The upstairs area adds extra space for the guests. The preferred seating is the open air street tables. Unfortunately, at the time of the visit in 2024, there was construction work at the entrance, and the street tables were missed. As a high street restaurant, it is not in a contest with KFC or McDonald. The quality of the food is tangents Michelin level, so are the prices and the portions. If you look for cheap, big portions, please continue your quest, then this restaurant is not your place. However, there is a three tier tourist menu that gives a culinary overview of the most beloved Hungarian dishes. Calm, quiet Hungarian music is played by a cimbalom virtuoso. The wine list is exquisite. The wine goes by dl, not by glass. 12% service fee is added to the bill. The personal was alert, friendly. The owner is a former javelin thrower champion. We found this place after visiting the castle in Budapest. We were all very hungry, it was late afternoon, and we really wanted to try something authentically Hungarian. After walking by several restaurants that did not look so appealing, we found this place. They offer a specialty for Tourists that is reasonably priced. It includes goulash soup, chicken paprikas, and a fruit filled pancake for dessert. The goulash was outstanding, if not a little on the lukewarm side. However, the taste was so good, I’m willing to overlook the temperature. The chicken paprikas was average, but it fill us up. Even though the food is quite average at this restaurant, the staff is amazing. They were incredibly friendly to us, explaining everything to us, and answering all of our questions. Capable stuff for good quality of service. Good professionals... They know very eell what they do. Nice quality of food. Variety of choices and even preset tourist menu with 3 plates and good prices. Personally I chose mushroom soup, chicken burrito and ice-cream desert ( I think it was tourist menu 3)everything was delicious and nice portions. I think we payed 16-17 euros. Clean and quiet space nicely decorated. (nothing too crazy and modern but classy and elegant). Clean toilets too. It is in the center of the city, full of people passing by but calm inside.
