I was lucky enough to find a free table without making a reservation first. However, the table was available for about an hour and a half, as someone else had a reservation for later. I am happy to say that we had a really great time there. Sure, the prices are higher that the usual restaurants, but so is the quality of the food. My boyfriend had the salmon and the french onion soup and I had the garlic pork medalion, as you can see in the pictures below. They were amazingly good. I don't know how they make it taste so good, they just do and it's a shame to miss this experience. As for the service, it was quick and the staff is really friendly. For some people they might seem overly friendly, as they talk to you, give you recommendations and constantly make sure you like the food and you're happy with the service. At first it might seem a little too much but once you combine this with the atmosphere of the restaurant, you will come to realize that you wouldn't have it any other way because that, amongst other things, is the charm of this place. We also got some free things, an aperitif, dessert, limoncello and some local digestive wine. They were all really good but don't drink too much, too fast as the drinks are pretty strong. They don't take credit cards! Cash only. And the bill is hand written, so don't be surprised there. If there's something you don't understand, just ask, they will surely help you. Dining in this place is an experience altogether and you should treat it just like this, taking everything into consideration: the food, the music, the staff, the small tables and intimate atmosphere. They may lack some things individually, but together they work really...
Read moreComme Chez Soi is a true gem in the heart of Budapest, and Roberto is the warm and welcoming captain of this culinary ship. From the moment I walked in, I was enveloped in a sense of belonging, like I was coming home to a dear friend's house. Roberto greeted me with a warm smile and a hearty handshake, inquiring about my preferences and dietary needs with a genuine interest that put me at ease.
The service was impeccable, with Roberto and his team attending to every detail with grace and finesse. Water glasses were always full, plates were cleared with lightning speed, and every request was met with a smile and a can-do attitude. But what truly sets Comme Chez Soi apart is the sense of community and connection that Roberto fosters. He knows his customers by name, and takes a genuine interest in their lives and experiences. He regaled me with stories of his travels and culinary adventures, and made me feel like a valued friend, not just a customer.
And then, of course, there's the food. Oh, the food! Roberto's culinary mastery is evident in every dish, from the hearty goulash to the sublime pasta creations. Every bite is a symphony of flavors and textures, a true celebration of the senses. And the pan-seared goose liver with pears? Divine. Simply, utterly divine.
Comme Chez Soi is more than just a restaurant - it's an experience, a journey, a love letter to the senses. Roberto's warmth, passion, and dedication to his craft have created a true gem in the heart of Budapest. Don't miss out on this...
Read moreDisappointing. We had reservation a month in advance, and based on the reviews, it should have been one of the best restaurants in town. Unfortunately, there were some flaws. We ordered Goose liver (Foie Gras) and Beef Tenderloin Fillet. The liver was crusty on the outside, and awfully close to liquid on the inside. Drowning in oil. There were more leftovers (tendons and fat) from the two pieces they served, than what was eaten. Total disappointment for what must have been a masterclass dish. Beef was no better. Rare on the inside and medium on the outside. If it can’t be cooked evenly, at least need to ask the customer what the desired doneness. I have asked to burn it more for at least medium level. One piece returned OK, but the second one was still medium-rare. Mashed potatoes was nothing special either.
The service was efficient and attentive. I do appreciate the Sorbet, bread & butter and two Limoncello glasses at the end. All three were complimentary "on the house". Maybe some people do like the coziness of the place (since its very small and barely has 10 tables), but for me it just felt a little bit claustrophobic. Tables are too close to each other. No real privacy at your own table. The prices are relatively high for Budapest standards. I wouldn’t mind if main dishes were fine, but they weren’t. Finally, considering my rule of thumb for Budapest restaurants, that whoever takes 12-15% service fee, I am deducting a star (and unsurprisingly they take...
