Horrible experience!!! Terrible service!! Don’t go here if you value your time and money!! My boyfriend booked us a table for my birthday and when we got there we were herded downstairs where they first of all couldn’t find his booking and then rudely asked when we booked it (as if that mattered in anyway as we had a booking confirmation). The guy there then told us that he was busy downstairs (it was literally empty) and that we could either sit at the bar or go upstairs. Giving them the benefit of the doubt we went upstairs - here is where it went downhill. The downstairs and upstairs have not communicated at all and the severs upstairs were not informed of us coming up or the fact that it was my birthday and we wanted to make it special. They firstly tried shoving us into a table right by the toilets and the walkway then they offered us a table squished into a corner with 6 other tables around and only when we threatened to walk did they seem to wake up. They offered us a four seater table by the window and said “we’ll separate it but if someone comes in we’ll sit them next to you” keep in mind that the distance between the tables was about 5 cm - they might as well Be sitting in my lap at that point. But fine whatever we sat down and there was no apologies from the waiters of the terrible service, the fact that they lost our booking or the fact that they have essentially ruined the birthday experience for me. At that point we decided to walk - without eating - and the server looked so annoyed and angry like it was our fault that they failed as a restaurant??? No sympathy from them at all so we knew we made the right choice when we decided to walk and instead went to La Caverna (another cave named restaurant that is 10000x better than this place) where they actually appreciate their customers. If I could give it negative stars I would - they ruined the night and my birthday so yeah in...

We wen to La Cave for the wine tasting event ( I got a voucher as a gift). The even itself was fun, informative. The presenter, Gerard, is a pro and knows what he is talking about and made it quite entertaining for the audience. The decor of the place, however, is horrendous. I was shocked that this kind of place exists in the heart of Dublin. First of all, the light in the room where we had wine tasting looked like at the hospital, the decor both in this room and in the basement where we had the dinner, consisted of endless old clutter, made the place look stuffy and not something I would even chose if it wasn't for the gift vouchers. I had the fish of the day for dinner which was fresh and nicely cooked. The side veg were barely warm, which was disappoiting. My partner ordered braised lamb which was bland and the waiter struggled with the advise on the matching wine. Overall, the service was friendly. We won't be coming back, despite the fact that we thoroughly enjoyed the wine tasting event (thanks...

Had a meal here on Sat night - was my first time - will definitely be going back. My wife had the prawn salad to start - she said it was delicious, and so fresh. (And a decent size portion too). I didn't have a starter. But their "bread for the table" portion was extremely generous. My only negative on the bread was that the butter was far too hard - it really should be at room temperature. My wife had the Duck Confit à l’Orange for mains and I had the Chicken Supreme. Both dishes were delicious. The veg was cooked to perfection. The only negative would be that the skin on the duck was not crispy - and was therefore far too fatty. However, the flavours were amazing - and for that - I will definitely be returning. 22/10/24 - ate again here - another superb meal - the food is so, so flavoursome.

Lovely décor in a colourful setting in a basement restaurant (la cave). There is a separate Chinese restaurant upstairs. In La Cave there a number of options: wine and tapas on high stools near the small bar; or a sit down meal. Best value is the lunch special menu for about 20 euro from Monday to Saturday. Best value on Sunday is the early bird menu between 4 and 6pm. Evening à la carte menu is more expensive. Great service from two very helpful ladies. Food was tasty and good options available. Great selection of wines. Tables are quite close, but the restaurant was not too busy at the time. A fine meal and a very pleasant experience. No complaints. La Cave also offers wine and cheese tasting evenings. It is also a recognised training facility for wine connaisseurs.

According to our new friend Margaret, who we met in Cork, we chose a great hidden gem for our last meal in Dublin. She was not wrong. At first when you walk in and then down the stairs to this tiny place, packed with people, it can be a little bit concerning. However, we were quickly acknowledged and seated. A booking is recommended. They pack the tables in, so be prepared to become best friends with the people around you, just as we did. We selected a Margaux from their exceptional wine list, and Oysters and a Prawn cocktail to start. For our mains we had Duck a l'orange and the filet of beef. We finished our meal with the cheese plate. Every course was excellent. This classic French bistro did not disappoint. Highly recommend.
