Robataso in Shinjuku is a standout dining spot that brings the warmth and tradition of Japanese robatayaki (fireside grilling) into a modern yet welcoming setting. The restaurant is known for its lively atmosphere, where chefs grill skewers of seafood, meat, and vegetables right in front of guests, creating both a feast for the eyes and the palate.
The menu highlights fresh ingredients cooked over open flames, delivering smoky flavors and tender textures. Seasonal dishes and carefully selected accompaniments elevate the dining experience, while the drink menu, featuring sake and Japanese beers, pairs perfectly with the grilled specialties.
For photographers, Robataso is a dream location to capture the spirit of Japanese dining culture. The glowing charcoal, sizzling skewers, and chefs’ performances at the grill provide dynamic and atmospheric shots. The cozy interior, filled with laughter and energy, reflects the essence of Tokyo nightlife.

Read moreTsubara who is one of the staff is amazing! Tsubara made my dinner so fun. What a incredible personality.
I've had a few robatayaki meals in japan. Many expensive meals that left my pocketbook lighter and made me say its not worth it. I had lower expectations and since I already paid for this meal on klook I said ok let's just do it. My expectations were wrong.
You get a ton of food. Delicious meals, high quality ingredients, great cooking techniques and a staff who is attentive and makes the meal so fun. From the moment you come to robatasho its a fun party with friends. I want tsubara and the staff as real friends! Incredible japanese hospitality.
Standout for my meals were:
Potato salad: served warm, bacon, red peppercorns, delicious cabbage. The best potato salad ive ever had
Kabocha: perfect salt, smoky, crisp on the outside, great balance.
Tempura: expensive ingredients, perfect crisp, perfect technique, octopus was so soft.
Kinki fish: light, perfect salt, crisp skin.
Beef: delicious, smokey, perfectly cooked.
I could go on. I'll be back with friends to...
Read moreThis place is a 10/10 easily! Everything about it was perfect. I originally came a couple days prior but unfortunately I didn’t know that reservations were strongly recommended due to the high demand so we weren’t able to get a seat that day, but luckily we were able to make a reservation for today.
As you walk in, you’re greeted by the whole staff that is extremely friendly. I had opted in for the set course of 4,500yen & the all you can drink option of 1,500yen. We ended up sitting right in front of the chef as she prepared everyone’s dish, which was very cool to watch. Everything was so delicious, and I’m glad we opted in for the course versus a la carte because we wouldn’t have tried a couple of the items we have received during the course. The atmosphere was very lively as well, I believe my girlfriend and I were the only Americans, maybe only non Japanese people there? But everyone was so welcoming and helpful. They went above and beyond for us, offering us more drinks even after we finished our food.
Would recommend for anyone visiting Tokyo or even...
