一张囍字YiZhangXiZi — Restaurant in George Town

A newly opened restaurant in which its store name has won the attention of others. The letter “Xi” suggests double happiness, delightful and fortune in Chinese is inviting and welcoming its customers to give it a visit. Contradicting to its name, the decorations of the restaurant doesn’t based on the theme of marriage, but a wooden/rattan table and minimalist themed of settings. I did ask the staff for the story behind the restaurant name but the doubt remained unsolved, haha!

Based on the menu, the restaurant offers Teow Chew traditional food like braised pork intestines rice, braised pork belly rice, mee sua with pork intestines, guang qiang, yam meat rolls etc. If you opt to rest your feet in the afternoon like what I did, polo bun, croissant, cakes and drinks are also available here. I ordered a cup of hot caramel macchiato (RM7.90) and occupied the bar table and high stools section. Delivery service is also available.

The staff was very concerned as she asked if it was too hot as I faced the glass windows. She offered if I’d like to shift to other tables.

The restaurant is well lit especially the section with roof skylight. However, it is depending on the visiting hours. It might be too hot at certain times as if customers are literally showered under the sun. The environment is neat and clean. This location was actually Tiger Sugar cafe in 2019 before it was taken oven by current cafe. This Teow Chew cafe is one of the few that caters 'Chao Zhou' dishes which come from people who speak Teow Chew in Quangdong, China. This cafe has its soft opening on 22 March 2023 and had a grand opening on 22 April 2023. On 18 April 2025, the establishment open another at Food Bayana in Bayan Lepas, Penang. This cafe serves a lot of soup based Chinese food to savour, which is perfect for seniors who have difficulty to chew. The food is very good and almost felt like actual home cook meal. Price is dependant on the food choices. The service is a bit slow and bad in food management as some of our order was canceled due to out of stock. We hope the management can able to resolve this matter as soon as possible. The food tastes okay and the portion size is reasonable. However, the waiting time is quite disappointing, especially for working people who only have a one-hour lunch break

When we visited, there were only three tables with customers (less than 10 people in total), and we were the first to arrive. Even so, we had to wait 30 minutes for our food. That left us with very little time to eat, and we had to rush just to get back to the office on time.

We shared our feedback when making payment, and the boss explained that there are new employees in the kitchen. While we understand that new staff may take time to adjust, we hope they can improve the speed soon-especially during lunch hours when many customers are on...
